I purchased the sweetest adult male five weeks ago, along with three other dogs, for a total of $6600. Lori approached me about them as she thought they would be a good fit for us, and they would have been, except our male dog has heartworms.

I can't help but believe that's why he was passed on to us. I contacted Lori with the results and politely requested that she either refund us for our male dog, Marley (in no way implying she knew about the condition), or cover the full cost of his treatment which is approximately $1800 (the price we paid for him). Her proposed solution was to contribute $1000 towards the treatment or to take him back, but she would then charge me a $2000 stud fee for the female he bred. Also, if I didn't want to pay the stud fee, I had the option to return our pregnant female dog as well.

Lori sent me $1000 through Venmo without any proof of condition, which leads me to believe she knew about the heartworms the whole time. I sent her a final message informing her that she had until today to provide the remaining funds for Marley's treatment and correct the situation, or I would expose her and her breeding practices. We have also hired a lawyer and plan to sue Lori, not only for the remaining cost of Marley's treatment, but also for full reimbursement for him. He is scheduled for treatment over the next four months and will be on strict crate rest for the next six months.

I urge you not to give this woman your time or money.

She has a daughter who also breeds Red Barn Farm Minis, with whom we had an exceptional experience, so I wouldn't want Lori and her reputation to impact her daughter. I have attached screenshots for verification.

Loss:
$3600
Pros:
  • Sweet dogs
Cons:
  • Expensive health needs
  • Unhealthy dogs
  • Deception

Preferred solution: Full refund

User's recommendation: Do not give her your time or money!

If you really did hire an attorney, you need to follow his instructions or find another one. You NEVER tip your hand and write or talk about a matter once an attorney is involved. You either did not follow his instructions or he never warned you not to discuss the matter.

I did discuss it with my attorney. I have shared what we agreed was allowed to be shared.

My only goal right now is to get reimbursed for treatment. If that happens outside of court that is FANTASTIC and it will save us the trouble of going to court. At the point we make it to court I am spending more than what she will owe me for his treatment… and at that point it is no longer about the money. It is about the time and headache it will be for her to find representation and go to court.

It is about teaching her a lesson on screwing people over just because she can.

I have much more information that I have not shared. This is simply to warn people and save them the heartache of spending thousands on a sick pup.

Not worth the heartache

Country Creek Dachshunds - Not worth the heartache

After waiting two weeks to gather my thoughts, I am writing this review with a heavy heart. We purchased a 3-month-old puppy from Lori Martinson in June 2024.

Tragically, we had to put him down two weeks ago. By August, after consulting both a behavior specialist and a veterinary behaviorist, I contacted Lori about our dog, who had been diagnosed with severe separation anxiety, neophobia, and later, bite aggression. He bit five individuals, including two trainers, and his condition only worsened over time. Even our trainer, who worked closely with him, refunded our fees, noting his issues required more than behavioral training.

Our vet prescribed multiple medications, but nothing eased his anxiety.

When rehoming became impossible due to his bite risk, we faced the painful decision of humane euthanasia. We believed Lori might understand our situation, so I shared the diagnosis and video evidence of the puppy's behavior. Instead, Lori accused us of staging the videos and dismissed our concerns, citing her policy that only terminal genetic conditions warranted her help.

In my view and that of the veterinary professionals, his suffering could have stemmed from genetic issues or mistreatment during his early life. Regardless, Lori's response was unprofessional and showed a lack of empathy.

We never asked for a refund, only the possibility of a replacement puppy.

Our sadness over this situation is profound, and I believe future owners deserve transparency and compassion. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Lori Martinson as a breeder.

User's recommendation: Do not purchase from this breeder
