Corvettes of World
We purchased a vehicle 6 weeks ago and were told that the vehicles go though a rigorous inspection process. The vehicle only had 15k miles when we purchased it and we have only added about 800 miles since we bought it. The brakes started making noise last week and now we find out that we need a front and rear brake job! In my opinion, the dealership should pick up the cost but as you might imagine that is not the case! Why do dealerships not pay attention to the power of social media? Please buy from a dealership with ethics and respect for their customers---not this one!

Cracked by door
had door panels pulled and amp cards installed also outer window seals on doors, they used a screw on passenger side door and "cracked the fiberglass on door". Spark plugs, radiator flush, steering wheel install to the tune of over $ 1300.00. I'm sure the installer knew he damaged the door and screws are not supposed to be used to make this installation, he never said a word. I did not complain dealership as will never return to this shop. I would not let this place change a tire for me. Consumer beware of this place I would recommend Frank's Vette in Sping Texas as a more reputable and honest service.

CORVETTES OF HOUSTON IS A RIPOFF!!!
I brought my 89 vette to Corvetes of Houston to get a problem fixed on the car that it was having. I initially talked to "Chris" the service manager and he assured me the problem would be fixed. I had confidence in this guy after I talked to him so I agreed to have my car transported down there. I had the car down there in September of 2009. The car had supposedly some module that had to be ordered from Detroit in order to have the car fixed. Long story short, Chris called me in January 2010 to pick the car up and he informed me that the car was fixed. I pick the car up and drive it about an hour north to my house. The next day I go out to start my car and the same thing was happening. (security light coming on and not letting the car start.) So I called Chris and I will admit I was furious because my car was supposed to be returned to me fixed. (1700 dollars later) So Chris told me that he would have a tow truck pick my car up and brought back down to have it fixed. I finally said O.K. but I cannot afford to be without a vehicle again for months. The car was brought down in at the end of January. In the middle of February he informed me that the car was ready to go. I left February 12th to pick it up. I get all the way down there and I get ready to get the keys and there is a $250 tow bill. I was irrate when I found this out and I demanded to speak with Chris. The guy behind the counter, pulls a gun on me and tells me to pay it or I am not getting the car. I was furius to the point that I was gonna snatch the gun out of this rookies hands and stick it down his throat. Chris finally came out and the billing issue was resolved. I left and get not even a half of a mile down the road and the car breaks down. I decided not to bring the car back to them because obviously Chris or the 8 dollar an hour technicians do not know what they are doing. I asked Chris and the technicians if they graduated out of the hillbilly backwoods mechanics club. So as far as bringing your car to Corvettes of Houston, I would think twice. Chris and his boys are obviously highly un-educated in the car fixing business. They should all retire. Maybe they should go out and get a job at Wal-Mart and try fixing cars there. Chris, nexttime your boys pull a gun on me, they had better use it or they will be sorry they ever pulled it. Have a great day and remember to BRING YOUR CAR SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!!

In my mind there is a logical way to approach this problem. You should go ahead and have the brake pads checked for wear and (if need to be replaced) ask for the old pads.
If the friction surface of the pads is level with the wear indicator then the pads are indeed worn and the squealing was caused by the warning indicator. You can then return to the dealer and show them the pads. Given the proper approach the dealer will likely accommodate since there would be proof that the "rigorous inspection" may have missed the worn pads. The dealer on the other hand may get the feeling that the car's new owners were "riding the brake pedal" as they drove the car causing the brakes to wear prematurely.
If so the dealer should have record of the thickness of the pads as recorded in the "rigorous inspection report". If I were the dealer (in this case) I would probably (at least) offer to pay for 1/2 of the brake job as a fair alternative in an effort to keep a customer happy which nearly always generates "more business". However it is their choice to go to that extent. On the other hand, if the pads are not worn then "technically speaking" there may be nothing wrong with them by design.
Some high performance brake pads are notorious for squeaking due to the friction compound used in their construction. Is it possible that the previous owner upgraded the pads for some more aggressive pads (such as Hawk HPS for ex). Any rigorous inspection from any shop will not expose these type pads. In fact these inspections normally focus on the thickness of the pads.
Replacing the pads is considered a brake job however it may not be the best method to correct this problem. Another possibility may be the mechanic who installed the pads failed to put the provided grease on the back side of the rotors prior to installation or (if original pads remain on the car) the coated shim between the pad and caliper piston has worn through the coating so they are now metal-to-metal inducing the annoying squeal. In either case the simple fix is to remove the pads and apply some brake pad grease on the back side of the pad and re-install the pads and (like magic) the squeaking is gone...
problem solved.
Take your Corvettes to Vetttech in Katy Texas 77494 to get honest estimates and repairs . This guy doesnt rip people off and cares about his Business AND his customers.
The shop probably suggested a new brake job because of the noise. We're they really worn out? Did you inspect the pads?
They rolled back or changed out the odometer or worse stole the new brakes off it to put on a higher priced vehicle. :(
