Charged for a 'bid', out of spite, when we used a different landscaper.

We received three bids for landscaping around our new house, in early spring 2018. When we decided on the landscaper we wanted, we immediately informed Mr. Widman that we were hiring a different landscaper. That was the right thing to do. Approximately six months after we told Mr. Widman that we were not using his services, we received an e-mail in which he was billing us for $139.15. Additionally he had added monthly interest. Like we told Mr. Widman, of the above named company, no contractor charges for a bid. He said 'oh this is not for the bid; it is for the 'design'. Really.....for the design?? Well, they are one in the same, whether you call it a bid or a design. We are each 75 years old. I think he thought we are easy targets. He has turned us over to two debt collectors. If he had told us up front that he charges for a bid, we certainly would not have even asked him for a bid. And we will not pay a bill that we do not owe.

We have been harrassed and billed for a bid for landscaping

In March 2018 we contacted James Widman of Cornerstone Landscape for a bid for landscaping around our new house. We obtained more than one bid and decided not to hire Mr. Widman and hired someone else. Six months down the road, we received a bill via e-mail in the amount of $139.15. And he was adding an interest penalty, monthly, which went back to his initial visit to our house. Contractors do not charge for bids. We told Mr. Widman that no contractor charges for a bid. He said he was billing us for the 'design'. What design? We told him what we wanted in detail just as we told the other landscapers that we requested bids from. Anyway, we do not owe a penny to Mr. Widman and will not be blackmailed to pay him anything at all. We just want to make others aware of what we have been through with Mr. Widman of Cornerstone Landscape here in Topeka, KS. Mr. Widman has turned us over to two collection agencies. So beware of what can happen with a 'free bid' from the wrong company.

The positive feedback from Mr. Boyd during our appointment was much different than this. As I recall, he simply loved the landscape plans. This is our first negative review of any kind and we take our customer service very serious.

I apologize that there was a misunderstanding on your end when you accepted our design services. Even the emails exchanged stated to you that we do charge for the design services before you even had a meeting (you can refer back to those emails). You were sent invoices for 6 months before we got your very unflattering phone call stating that you wouldn't be paying a penny of what you owe and agreed upon. In fact, your first invoice was sent exactly 13 days after our initial meeting.

After 6 months of no payment, I forwarded this bill to 1 single individual collections agency. That is what companies do when they have a customer who do not pay their bill. You have been the first and only customer in 4 years to be sent to collections... so I have to disagree with your statement that says: "Mr.

Widman has turned us over to two collection agencies. So beware of what can happen with a 'free bid' from the wrong company." Also, we weren't doing a 'free bid'. As you requested, you received a customized, detailed, landscape design. In addition, we sent out 5 invoices in 6 months.

And have spoken over the phone 1 time. Then there was your very nasty email sent to us after our phone call... which was responded to in a polite and professional manner. Polite and professional.

There has been no other communication and ZERO harassment or blackmail from anyone at this company. We will respectfully ask you to stop slandering our company out of anger and feel free to file another report with the BBB or the Kansas Attorney General's Office, (as you have already done), if you have any further issues regarding this matter.
