Concord Sober Living
Sober Living Home in Concord CA run by misogynist ***
The landlord running this sober living house assured me that he would take great care of the house while I was there, including but not limited to insuring other residents' compliance with the rules of the contract we all signed in order to live there. He warned me however that one of the residents was fighting with my then-roommate, who would be moving out as, the landlord told me, she was "difficult to get along with." The landlord told me essentially that though my roommate had been having trouble getting along with one of the other residents, the problems were "all her fault" and would thus, so he said, end as soon as she left.
This was not the case.
As I learned after moving in, the landlord himself had gotten into a screaming match with my roommate several days prior to my moving in, if by "a screaming match" you mean 'him screaming AT her.' The cops were called, they took her side, the landlord retaliated by taking away the cable box in her room AS WELL AS HER DOOR then demanding she leave by the end of the month.
This type of behavior turned out to be typical of this landlord. He refused to drug-test one of the other residents in spite of this resident's erratic, irresponsible and downright dangerous behavior. The landlord also refused to so much as reprimand this man for picking fights over events as minor as me turning off the air conditioning [at nine p.m. at night in fifty-degree weather], or leaving the sliding glass door open for two minutes while carrying my dishes back inside from the patio, or "banging" the door of the microwave while using it. This resident had no job, nothing to do with his time, and was generally speaking a glorified couch potato in what had become [in his mind] "his" crash pad. His attitude was that the house was his home, and we all just lived in it----in spite of the fact that he paid no more or less rent than any of the rest of us, and would have been theoretically subject to the same rules had the landlord actually gotten some balls and enforced them.
Bottom line: this experience taught me that a) sober living houses are not always all they are cracked up to be, b) it's a better idea to live with all females than in a mixed house as a female unless I know the males I will be housing with before moving in, and c) misogynist males stick together, and it is my job to stay AS FAR AWAY from them as possible.
Folks----do not make the same mistake I did. Do not touch this situation with a ten foot pole. Peace.

This "concord sober living" should NOT be confused with ConcordSoberLiving.org (925)-435-**** with houses on Clayton Way, East Olivera rd, and Huron dr. recommended by DVR, Discovery House, RMS and others.
$585.00 per month. Weekly transportation provided to grocery stores.
Hi,
I'm the one who originally posted this review. Since these events occurred about five years ago, it's entirely possible this house no longer exists.
However, I can assure you that they're entirely true.
Don't get me wrong, my roommate here was abrasive and difficult to get along with. However, it seemed very clear from my little time there that the landlord had no idea what he was doing and no willingness to invest his own time in creating house rules and a stable living structure.
I absolutely agree with the comments here that suggest only qualified professionals should run places like this. Unfortunately, in my experience this kind of thing is fairly common in mental health care.
I've attended two eating disorder treatment centers in my time--one trained their hands-on staff for six weeks [and required no prior training or psychological degree] before allowing them to work day-to-day with the patients; the other hired basically anybody, and offered no training. Obviously, this didn't go well.
Hi Leslie can You clarify the name and address of said sober living. I have Google several specific sober livings in Concord and Your review comes up for all of them, even the female run homes.
This is not the Peace House on Keswick Lane - Peace House has never had a male manager - ever.
This blog was written before my Sober Living home was formed in 2014. The "concord sober living" in this thread is not www.ConcordSoberLiving.org . I have 4 sober living environment (SLE's) homes in Concord, California.
But was it true?.... Robert C. 10 yrs clean & sober.
Some yrs ago i lived in an sle on thunderbird dr in concord ca. Good place and people.
Never once have i heard of such an outrageous landlord. Be it SLE HOMLESS SHELTER OR IN THE REAL WORLD OF RENTING IN ALL MY 60 YRS ON THIS EARTH. I'M. CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO LIVE.
REALATIONSHIP FAILED BUT I'M STILL GOLDEN...CLEAN AND SOBER DISABLED...VET...FORMER ALCOHOLIC. RECOVERY BDAY...8-3-2006. Was thinking about just checking out peace house on keswick. I lived on whitman rd fromm 1969 - ****.
But after reading review about this landlords behavior...it reminds me of why I'd rather live on the streets. SLE's should never be run by non professionals. acredited school persons i think are the only people qualified for such a position. Recovery house also should never be run or governed by recovering addicts.
It makes no sense to me...never did. No one us above reproach but i rather have my stay or eviction determined by someone qualified. Not someone who is just as much at risk as I....just sayin....Robert Cazet 10 yrs clean & sober...past 6 without a " program" Sometimes life sucks...it's never fair but it doesn't mean you have to suck or self medicate to deal with it.
Cause self medicating is self destructive and only lets you hide until the *** you use wares off. Square One.
This is outrageous
