I was lured into a free offer (1 cent actually) for a joint product promotion. When I got my tax program they threw in an Anti-Virus Plus software for 1 cent from CA Internet Security.

The drawback was that it had an automatic renewal which you had to opt out from after you made the purchase. First, finding the place for opt out was incredibly hard, it's hidden so much you wouldn't believe. Anyway I got it and opted out. But a year later I got an email saying it's activated.

WTF I thought, and tried to find a place where I can deactivate it, AGAIN. The links from the original order were not active anymore of course and I was not able to find any link to deactivate. I called their customer service and they were not impressed thet I want to cancel. But after an hour or so on the phone, they said it's deactivated, and when I said I don't want any more renewal notice ever, they said it's done, no more action will happen from them ever.

They lied. Today (another year later) I got an email which cheerfully informs me that the automatic renewal feature is back on for my own protection, in case I forget to renew and protect my PC. I did the opt out from the link in the email AGAIN, but now I have to check my credit card statements if it's really true. The rep says it's cancelled OK, but would you believe them?

I don't.

My advice: DO NOT EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM CA!!! They will get you, whether you want it or not!!!

When I walked in, the 4 women customer sales people were standing at the counter gossiping. After wating for a few miutes, I walked to the back and decided to go ahead and look at the blinds they had up.

When I finally needed to know prices, I went up to the gossiping women and asked for help. The nastiest of the lot decided to come up to me, with a "yes, what".

She did not want to give me prices of blinds and kept telling me that they were more expensive than the last ones.

This company has been interfering with my credit rating via its automatically being setup to continue a subscription that had been cancelled about a year ago. When I had asked for the initial refund for my first purchase through their their online store (at cainternetsecurity.net) was at the time of purchase. This was because a download was unsuccessful, to the point where my computer's near crash signaled me this would not be a good product for me to purchase. It took almost 3 months for an automatically deposited refund to finally be given.

Now, today, I have just gotten off the phone from having to discuss their poorness of service--and for the 2nd time in a 4 week period.

WHY complain about such poor service post-cancellation? It seems they had kept my account UP TO DATE, but with a bad debt attached, due to their system failure to delete the 3 accounts given at time of purchase. Last month's call involved a male calling center employee promising me I would receive no further notification regarding their company grab for my money (I had to change the account's number due to a security issue earlier this year--prior to noting this was going on).

Quote: "Your purchase included continuous protection with automatic renewals and we are preparing to process your renewal within the next 2 days. However, we are currently unable to renew your subscription due to a credit card authorization failure."

DO NOT attempt to buy anything their company might supply. They are insincere, and I believe may be operating a scam under the guise of legitimate business.

It might be wise to check your credit status if you have made any prior purchase through their online store. As they are not keeping correct records, the best thing to do is hang onto your paperwork and study it carefully. WIll they cause you a further bill, and at a later date? Are you having them handle all your home computer security? Judging by how they have treated this customer, I would highly recommend you go for a different product line altogether.

Need their refunding process to work for you? I would suggest you keep a watch on all credit card transactions made automatically from that point forward. Having spoken with their supposed supervisor, I still have a doubt as to this problem's resolution having been taken care of carefully enough. Only time will tell.

Their politeness at office level would appear to be just a way of mollifying the customer into a belief that is not concurrent with the actual faith given through the refund process. It is apparent, then, that they are neither careful nor particularly scrupulous, a thing one comes to expect from anyone in their line of expertise.

Buyer beware!

I bought the anti-virus software from the CA online store. It took me a while to install it, but when I did I noticed that the anti-virus updates were due to expire 1 year from when I bought the software, rather than from when I started using it.

If I had bought the software in the high street, I wouldn't expect the anti-virus updates to expire 1 year after I bought it - I'd expect them to need updating after 1 year of use.

I contacted CA customer support and they are not at all interested. Obviously I won't be buying from them again...
