How would you compare HEB vs Kroger?
HEB prices are too high, product quality is too low, selection is over-extensive for organic foods; management is very poor and varies significantly by store location; customer service is extremely poor. Kroger is far better offering significant discounts (HEB offers very little) at times up to 30% on your bill; quality is good, selection is fine, wines are far better, management and employees are better; customer service is fine.
I bought a Smithfield ham at HEB that was 14 lbs. After cooking we could not believe the amount of fat - 8 lbs. We cut it off and it was a real mountain. Terrible In addition there was over 4 oz of water in the plastic bag containing the ham!
What a rip-off. CS at HEB said it was "genetic" and ham varied. What a bunch of BS. Animals are selected for genetics to product quality meat not fat!!
I referenced the fact that a Chinese company with notoriety for bad quality now owns Smithfied. They produce at various USA locations. The dumb CS person responding for their goofy President said they do not purchase the hams intentionally! Can you believe how stupid she is and how bad HEB is.
I specifically referred to the Chinese management of USA production and the fact that it is documented that this Chinese company has and had a very bad quality control reputation. This whacky HEB CS woman then went on to say she visited every single production site and verified their quality production! I thought I was dealing with soeone from another planet. Since this was about the fourth time something like this has happened, all the while HEB promoting their nonsensical propaganda on quality, we no longer do business at HEB - Krogers, Fiesta, even Walmart, et.
al. We have not had the problems encountered at HEB. I did contact the DOA and ask them about so high an amount of water in the ham bag. I was informed that is not good at all, becasue it can lead to very serious contamination..food poisoning.
HEB could care less as they are useless to deal with, provide no restitution, do not resolve problems, and are far too defensive and protective to the point of potentially harming their customers health. Their products are far too inconsistent and there are too many other market choicnes than HEB.
