Wider Circle (CA, MI, GA) and A Wider Circle (MD) are two different companies. Uh oh, looks like a legal battle up ahead over this.

I want to plead Wider Circle that if the job requires video conferencing please say so in the job description.

Ive been excluded from so many jobs Ive learned to avoid completely companies that rely heavily on technology, and had the job posting been upfront I would not have wasted my time in applying.

The reason I was upset is because age discrimination happens even when the business is dealing with the Senior population. What a complete let down thinking Ive found my dream job only to have the door slammed in my face.

Heres my review: I am a retired senior; a former professional with geriatric experience and a Masters degree in Counseling. I saw the title seniors calling seniors, and eagerly applied for this position thinking Ive found something perfect! No where in their ad does it say video required because if it did, I wouldnt have bothered applying.

The gal who screened me seemed to be having a really bad day.

Her interest in my application bordered on robotic as she had absolutely zero personality in her voice. A flat affect while in a recruiting position gave me the impression that this company is no where near the warm and inviting image it projects in its advertising.

Id like to express my opinion: if you really are trying to recruit seniors, please understand many of us have opted out of technology one way or another as we age. If its a vital skill then kindly say so in your job posting to prevent the cycle of rejection encountered by many seniors in todays tech oriented job market.

When I retired from the workforce I said goodbye to heals, fancy hair styles, make up, social media, all of it. I will never apologize as I truly enjoy my peaceful tech free lifestyle.

Its just frustrating to be denied employment for not being up to date on tech knowledge when I exceed all other required skills in the position; especially job posts specific to seniors.

Just a thought to reconsider your job discrimination practices against the very population you are claiming to help.

I would not recommend this company unless you are a senior comfortable with all the gadgets out there, and have no problem working on minimum wage, contract (meaning you pay the employers tax out of your own pay).

Finally I wanted to comment about the independent contractor status.

The IRS has set guidelines a company MUST follow in order to pass on paying payroll taxes to the innocent applicant. Wider Circle if you are dictating how an individual does their job AND telling them what equipment they MUST use, it appears your company is in violation and most likely will be sued for it one of these days.

Oh yes and think twice before placing people who lack enthusiasm in your front line recruiting positions.

User's recommendation: Apply elsewhere.

Monetary Loss: $100.

Preferred solution: Please be more detailed in job postings to avoid further discrimination of your senior applicants. .

Wider Circle Cons: Discriminating against the very people they claim to help.
