Paid cash for item, found hole in shirt after purchase, tried to return next day. They didnt have the same size & requested a refund.

The salesgirl said they didnt give cash refunds, only store credit and pointed this out to me on receipt. This goes for credit and debit cards too. They dont inform you of this when making purchase & according to their home office they have these signs posted at the checkout, though how many people are really going to notice this when trying to check out. Very shady business practice and from what i could tell very cheaply made clothing.

This place will be out of business soon with policies like this.

Location: Columbia, South Carolina

I bought my clothes online and I want to return it at my closest Wet Seal store and receive store credit but I don't have my receipt. Can i return it if I show my California ID?

Guest

I work at Wet Seal. I don't like the policies much, either.

But at our store, you can return your item within 14 days and get cash back. Otherwise, it's store credit.

And we do have the policies listed at the front counter. If you don't read them there or on your receipt, that's not our fault.

Guest

I wish I had read this before I went into their store today. I couldnt even get my money back before leaving the store.

I realized after paying that my daughter had an extra shirt on my tab and tried to return it and they looked at me with one of the witchiest looks ever and told me they have no way of giving me my money back. NEVER again

I have worked in retail over six years and I have seen many return policies such as the one at wet seal. Wet seal gets a lot because of their return policy but forever 21 has the exact same policy, but they recieve less complaints.

I have personally know an employee at wet seal and there story is absolutely notorious for shoplifting. Of course, every store including my own is prone to shoplifting but wet seal gets hit the worst. Because their clothes are so cheap, they attract sketchy customers who often steal rather than pay. The majority of really cheap stores has a retuun policy like this because shoplifters continuously try to " return" clothes they've never purchased.

I understand a lot of you are upset with the employee as well and think they are rude, but I cantilever almost guarantee that once they told you they couldn't give you a credit / cash refund you snapped at them. Give yue employees a break. And in the future, its your respinsibilty to read the receipt and respect yhr policy.

They enstated the policy for a reason. You don't have to like it, but retail is a.business and you have to respect it.

I bought a scarf at wet seal that has both sides sowen together and wore it out. When I got home and took it off I notice there was a huge hole at one of the end of one of the seams.

I have the reciept but lost the tag ad noticed on the reciept that it says you need the tag for exchanges. Will they still let me exchange the item without the tag?

Guest

I am a manager at a wet seal and I ALWAYS have the girls tell the return policy. And if I have a customer come in and the item is damaged or they need another size or something like that I totally exchange it.

Rules are rules I guess but I always believe in making that customer happy. If she needs a bigger size and its over 21 day policy as long as it doesnt look worn or anything like that WHO CARES. Make them happy and they will shop with you again.

Sorry for your bad experiences everyone! Im on my last week with this company because I cant take it either!

Guest

and believe me i will def be a smart shopper! the first step to smart shopping...eliminate the stores that dont make customers happy and offer cheap products ;) trial and error just try to remember not to make the same mistake twice. i wont be setting foot in another wetseal until items are brought up to buying standards and policies are put in place for the customers satisfaction not just for the business\' benefit..oh and another bonus would be teaching minimum wage employees some manners.there is no excuse for name calling ur customers

now i remember why i stopped shopping @ wetseal, i recently purchased a couple pairs of boots online and when i recieved them i immediatly changed my mind. they looked very cheaply made and were very thin.

the sizing was way too big, ive never had a problem before with sizing at any other store. Sizing is the least of my problems, the quality is what gets me and the return policy is the dumbest thing Ive ever heard! and for the person advising people to shop at walmart for a cash back guarantee, I would def shop at walmart over wetseal their materials are of way better quality than wetseal which is probably why the return policy is so sh**ty bcus the store knows how *** their items are.

I was shocked at the replys on here from the retail employees but i guess from what one of them stated theirselves about barely being trained must be the reason for THEIR ignorance. get a real job where u are trained properly and support better policies & learn how to treat customers who are keeping you employed, instead of calling customers ignorant and lazy get back behind the counter and show some respect to the people keeping your store in business!

Guest

First of all it is not mandatory that the employees tell you the return policy. How many stores do you go to where they read the return policy u word for word.

The policy is by the register and on the receipt.

It also gives u the exact date for which the purchased can be returned until. Maybe if u customers would stop being lazy and read the receipt or even ask before the purchase u wouldn't find yourself in these situations use common sense people!

Guest

I do not shop at wet seal because of there return policy.

Guest

its funny how all of you sound ignorant in your complaints. Maybe you should learn to be a smart shopper and ask questions while making a purchase if you're too *** lazy to read the return policy that is in front of your face/and on your receipt.

believe it or not the predicaments you found yourself in are no one's fault but your own. be a smart shopper

-sincerely a retail employee

But don't you have to pay to get a receipt? Your attitude sucks just like the girl at the counter at my wet seal. :eek

I went into Wet Seal on July 18, 2011 to purchase my daughter's school jeans. She went into fitting room and tried everything on, so we purchase 5 pairs of jeans.

My daughter isn't allowed to wear the jeans until school starts; which is Monday August 22, 2011. Come to find out she grew in a month's time and all of the jeans were "snug". So I take them back to Wet Seal to EXCHANGE for a bigger size with receipt in my hand and tags on all jeans. The cashier looks at me and says I can't take these back it's been 21 days.

I asked if she could exchange them for her size and she said "nope".... So I basically am left trying to sell 5 pairs of jeans on ebay or wherever or I'll be out of 130.00.... NEVER EVER again will I shop at Wet Seal for another item...

I have a growing pre-teen that I spend a lot of money on clothes for... they just lost a good customer and I will be sure to tell everyone I know about my experience.

I had an issues with a return myself. I was willing to take the instore credit, but they didn't bother to tell me that they didn't keep records of their returns and that I needed to keep my return receipt.

When I came back to use my credit, I was told that I was basically SOL.

They got 130 bucks out of me plus their clothes back. I got screwed all the way around

Everyone complaining about Wet Seal return policy needs to remember 2 things.

1. It is not deceptive and it is not unreasonable. One of the women in these ILLITERATE posts, mentions Forever21. I've shopped there and they don't give cash back either. Wet Seal is a store that offers cheap fashionable clothing, and they would lose so much money if they offered cash back on everything. Plenty of other stores in the malls have the same policy. If you want a cash-back guarantee - SHOP AT WALMART. Otherwise, stop being so cheap.

2. Complaining about the store employees, and yelling at them over things they cannot control is ignorant and rude. Most retail employees make minimum wage, are barely trained and THEY DON'T MAKE THE POLICY. They merely enforce it and if they were to slip up, they could be fired or written up and for what? You to get your $9 back on a belt your teenager can't stop flip-flopping on? Past experience has shown me that often, the cashier isn't "rude" like people say, but most people just say she's rude or snotty or whatever because they didn't get there way. It's like a 4 year old child calling mommy a *** head because he didn't get chocolate ice cream with dinner. It's immature. Also, if the cashier does have a defensive tone, it's because they get yelled at everyday over an exchange policy that's OUT OF THERE CONTROL.

Bottom line is, know what your buying before you buy it, and remember that the teenager behind the counter is human, and just a teenager. Act civilized. I've seen store managers at Wet Seal and other stores make exceptions to return policys to customers who actually were grateful, and civilized to employees.

I have been telling my Daughter to stop shopping there, but she likes some of the clothes. They seem to have a return policy that changes more than the weather!!

I purchased a belt at Wet Seal in the mall and upon purchasing the cashier went over what was final sale (jewelry, Lingerie, swimwear, compact discs, clearance and sale items) my belt is none on that list and is not sale or clearance . I asked her what about this belt? she said exchange or store credit only. So i proceeded to checkout. The next day I decided to exchange the medium size belt for a Large . I waited in line for 30minutes since there was only one cashier (the same one from the day before). When it was finally my turn in line I said I'm here to exchange this medium size belt for a Large size and it still was in brand new condition with the tags attached and the receipt. she looked over to the other cashier and asked "can we do exchanges on belts?" i'm thinking why would you tell me i could yesterday and now act like you don't know your own policy??? so she said yeah just get the one your going to exchange it for but it has to be the same style. I get the exact same one just a size Large, the line was long and she kept taking the next and the next customer ignoring me waiting on the side of the line so i jumped the line for when the next cashier (the one she asked about the exchange) and she was really rude and said "final sale on accessories" I said o.k I understand that but she ( the one next to her) told me yesterday and just now that I could so make up your minds. So she says in an attitude " I'll do an exchange but just this once!!" then I said o.k thank you and I'll never shop here again. She didn't do the exchange because the size Large had a different upc bar code number from the medium size one . Me working retail all my life I can tell you that of course it's not going to match because each size has its own bar code upc number. To make a long story short IF ACCESSORIES ARE FINAL SALE THEN IT NEEDS TO BE STATED THAT WAY IN THE RECEIPT BECAUSE MY RECEIPT DOES NOT MENTION FINAL SALES FOR BELTS, ACCESSORIES, OR EVEN ETC. THE STORE DOES NOT WANT YOU TO BE ABLE TO RETURN OR EXCHANGE ANYTHING. ONCE YOU PAY THAT'S PRETTY MUCH IT DON'T RETURN WITH THE ITEM. AND ANYBODY CAN TRY AND SAY THAT I'M IN THE WRONG BUT AS A NEW WET SEAL CUSTOMER AND NEVER AGAIN WET SEAL CUSTOMER THERE RECEIPT STATES THIS : NO CASH REFUNDS OR CREDIT BACK TO CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS. UNWORN, UNWASHED, UNDAMAGED MERCHANDISE WITH TAGS ATTACHED, PRESENTED ON OR BEFORE (DATE) WITH ORIGINAL GIFT RECEIPT MAY BE ACCEPTED FOR EXCHANGE OR MERCHANDISE CREDIT. JEWELRY, LINGERIE, SWIMWEAR, COMPACT DISCS, CLEARANCE MERCHANDISE SALES ARE FINAL AND WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR EXCHANGE OR MERCHANDISE CREDIT. VALID PHOTO ID IS REQUIRED FOR ALL RETURNS AND EXCHANGES. WET SEAL RESERVES THE RIGHT TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF RETURNS, EXCEPTS AS PROVIDED BY APPLICABLE LAW.

THEY PRETTY THINK THAT BELTS ARE JEWELRY OR LINGERIE THAT OR THEY LIMITED ME TO NONE FOR ANY EXCHANGES OR STORE CREDIT .AFTER CALLING A DIFFERENT STORE AND TALKING TO CUSTOMER SERVICE CORPORATE AND DISTRICT MANAGER NO ONE CARED TO DO ANYTHING NOT EVEN TO FIX THEIR POLICY WRITING SO THAT IT DOESN'T HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE. DON'T SHOP AT THESE STINGY CHEAP PLACES WITH NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. I HAVE BETTER EXPERIENCE SHOPPING AT PLACES LIKE TARGET, MACY, FOREVER21 ETC.

I just tried to exchange a pair of jeans for my daughter, that were bought at Christmas, for a smaller size. I was unable to locate receipt but the jeans had all the original tags.

The manager at the Dayton Mall informed me that The Wet Seal will not make an exchange or give a merchandise credit without the receipt. However, that is not what their policy states on the web page. I am waiting for a return call from the district manager. Someone at the Wet Seal needs to read their policy on returns.

Let it be known to stay away from the Wet Seal should you ever need to make a return. Their sales are final!!

i use to like wetseal but they suck now now that they bogoush refund policy has disturbed and upset me!! they refund policy sucks!

I bought $130 outfit in total which I did not wear and wanted a refund for my money back sadly their crazy *** policy has no refunds only item exchange and store credit THEY WANNA MAKE SURE THEY GET YOUR MONEY AND KEEP IT! SMH, neva again I hope they lose business thanks to their refund policy or either change it!!!!!!! }:/

I disklike them! I will no longer shop there, weseal clothing is cute but not cute enough for my money to be riped off }:/ Im sure im 1 out of numours consumers with complaints about their shameful policy.

How do they expect to manitain a succesful busniess with a inconsiderate and upsetting policy to their consumers resulting in poor consumer service by their *** policy allowing prevention of happy returnded consumers like me and plenty of others? .. By that, wetseal can end up walking out the door with us with their busniess slowly but can possibly surely go out of busniess!

.... more and more complaints CAN allow their busniess to fail .
