Summary

United States Coast Guard or USCG is a branch of the United States Armed Forces. It was created by Congress on August 4, 1970. United States Coast Guard missions are as follows: coastal defense, homeland security, search and rescue, intracoastal aids, and maritime law enforcement. US Coast Guard roles also include drug interdiction, migrant interdiction, ice operations, defense readiness, and living marine resources. USCG is also called "Coastie" informally. Coast Guard personnel numbers 42000 active duty military men, 8500 civilian employees, and 7000 reservists. United States Coast Guard operates under U.S. Department of Homeland Security. U.S Guard officers are trained in a full-year service academy located in London, Connecticut.
