United Concordia Dental unethically refuses to pay covered services
United Concordia has refused claims for my family for services that should be covered. I had a tooth that was cracked completely and the only repair was a crown --their advisor said it wasn't necessary--denied.
Both my daughter and I needed periodontal scaling (we had different dentists, so it wasn't a dentist issue)--advisor said unnecessary although it was a covered service. Preapproval requests go missing over and over and over again. Customer service is horrible, rude, and condescending. For covered services--they will only pay for silver fillings (archaic) and very basic X-rays.
We have been stuck with UCD as the only dental insurance offered by my husband's employer. Fortunately, we have found a great dentist in our area who offers an amazing dental membership plan. Our family is dropping UCD like a hot potato and switching. They are the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life.
Unethical, uncaring, greedy, rude. I would go so far as to allege that what they are doing is not legal.
If you have any other choice than UCD, then switch!!
Reason of review: Denies covered services routinely and without merit.
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.
United Concordia Dental Cons: Greedy ways, Denial of covered benefits, Rudeness.

I was just told by my dental office that United Concordia is refusing to cover my crown. My situation is the same as yours, I had a cracked tooth with a 35 year old filling...the only solution was a crown.
After my dental office appealed, they paid the cost of a filling, around $92. I still have a balance of $220.
I have not talked to them yet, just doing some research first. I think a lawsuit, possibly class action, should happen.
Count me in on a class action lawsuit against these people.
United Concordia has refused claim for me for service that should be covered. I had a tooth that was damaged completely and the only repair was a crown -- Their "Dentist Advisor's opinion" said it wasn't necessary--denied.
I am going to drop this dental insurance.
Why should I continue paying the service knowing that United Concordia will NOT pay anything? THIS is not right!
I am a Philadelphia teacher and my dentist said they are terrible.
I always get a predetermination before work. They have to resubmit it three times before it is approves.
This sounds like a lawsuit to me. Have you ever contacted them directly?
Linda
I need a couple of crowns myself
Yes, of course I contacted them many times to no avail. Finally dropped them and self-insured through my dentist.
