Attempted to build a new home with Shea. The moment we signed our contract, we found out our first of 5 sales reps that were assigned to us made an error.
The sales manager made it appear that it was our fault and when we pushed her for resolution we were made to feel like she was doing us a huge favor. Then, they poured our foundation backwards, months later admitting it was their fault and there was a miscommunication between the office and the field. At that point it was too late to be corrected without a major impact on the build schedule. When we questioned our field manager, asking when they were going to get going on the construction, he reminded us that our contract stated that they have 2 years to build the house; making us feel like we had better not ask anymore questions or they might actually take 2 years to build instead of the 7 months the sales manager had told us it would take.
We found out after talking to several neighbors that we were not given the same list of options as others were because we were working with a brand new designer who didn’t know everything he should. When we asked to add some options, we were told we could not do change orders even though our contract had provision for change orders. As the house progressed, we had issues with bad drywall(you could see the tape seams on the ceiling). We were told this would be fixed, but they continued with installing flooring, then cabinets, then tile without fixing this.
We found a broken cabinet and asked their cabinet installer if he would replace the cabinet and he said, “No, we will just out the countertop on and no one will know the difference.” When we spoke to the Division Manager about the cabinet, we were told that they installed a broken cabinet because they needed it for the template for the countertop. This made no sense because it was an intermediate cabinet and we knew the countertops are cut at the fabricators, not on site. When they poured the driveway, the concrete dried too quickly leaving waves in it. When they tried to fix it, they used a wire brush and it made it worse.
When we requested that they replace the concrete, they said they would, but didn’t. This builder wants their buyers to bow down to them and treat their customers like dirt. They have no sense of true customer service even though they say the take so much pride in their customer service.
We spoke to neighbors whos homes had been completed and were told that they were expected to close before their homes were finished and then it was a nightmare trying to get people to come back to finish or fix anything. BEWARE OF THIS BUILDER!
