I ran out of a sample of Colgate Sensitive Complete and had a coupon for Sensodyne. Brushed my teeth in the am and later in the day I could not understand why my mouth lips tongue and gums had a burning sensation.

Brushed again that evening and the sensation was worse! I googled the toothpaste and found many others like me!! The sensation is equilvalent to that of burning my tongue on a hot piece of pizza, except this is like all over my mouth and even lips. I'm trying to gargle with baking soda and I immediately stopped the toothpaste.

My mouth still burns and I hope it goes away soon. I plan on trying to gargle with some aloe vera juice as well but I believe it's the toothpaste as I have nothing else that i changed or did in my routine out of the ordinary that I could blame it on....ugh!!

Not fun! Can't say I've ever had this with any other toothpaste ever.

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Location: Thiensville, Wisconsin

I have had the same problem for a few days now. A few days ago I opened a tube of sensodyne to try it, and I got to thinking today it might be this new toothpaste I am using.

I will stop using it and will never buy another tube.

I have been just miserable. Thank you for posting .

I came here looking for answers, I had/have this issue. I went on vacation and used a different toothpaste for two weeks and it went away.

Came back home to Sensodyne and it came right back. It dawned on me it was the toothpaste. I'm off it now.

Holy crap, I how my sense of taste comes back. I can't taste sweet, salt, or savory.

Been using Sensodyne Repair for years and no trouble. Opened a new tube today and it caused my mouth and lips to burn.

I used rapid relief Sensodyne and it burned my gums causing them to go from a healthy pink color to bright red. It caused canker sores, and my gums bled after using an extra soft toothbrush.

My upper lip is swollen and I have red marks on the inside of my lips. Very painful.

Threw out the tube of toothpaste and will NEVER use it again. I have been rinsing with salt water and no relief yet.

Yes, I'm also experience the burning. I've used sensodyne for years and it only recently started burning the inside of my gums.

My gums have been burned so smooth now that I can't even whistle....(I have a dog that I need to call) I mentioned it to my husband and he also said it is now burning his gums as well. I've loved the toothpaste up to this point but will need to change.

Iโ€™ve used original Sensodyne for years but a few wks ago tried the Sensodyne Rapid Relief. The inside of my mouth begin to tingle but I didnโ€™t think that was going to get worse or was a sign of a bad thing.

About 2.5 weeks later, last week, The inside of my upper and lower lips burn if I eat anything thatโ€™s not bland and my lips look like I have had a bad collagen job. I wear a retainer so I kept thinking it was my retainer. I stopped using it and I even had my dentist repair my retainer to see if that was the problem and I continued using the rapid relief by Sensodyne.

Unfortunately, my lips are still huge and burning and tingling. Iโ€™m going to stop all Sensodyne and hope this swelling goes down and pain eases.

Did the Colgate Sensitive sample help?

You don't say which type of Sensodyne you were using. They have a few different ones and I have seen many complaints with their newer one "repair and protect." The problem you experienced is due to something in their formula that you are sensitive to.

This happens. The active ingredient, potassium nitrate is what de-sensitizes and is the common ingredient in most all of these sensitive toothpastes. One or more of the other, inert ingredients is thus the culprit for you. Try another, cheaper brand of sensitive toothpaste that has potassium nitrate of 5% and you will be fine if you need one of these for sensitive teeth.

Usually, any house brand will do. Why pay more for the brand name? Rinsing with baking soda solution should help. FYI: Tom's of Maine makes a sensitive toothpaste that has no potassium nitrate and claims to be just as effective while using only "natural" ingredients.

Very expensive, tho and probably not worth it when you can buy much cheaper house brands that will do the same thing. You will survive.
