Extremely disappointing experience with PlayStation moderation and customer support

I am writing this review after one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I have had in years.

My PlayStation communications were suspended due to something my child allegedly said in a chat, after another user reported it. I want to be clear: I am not disputing that moderation is necessary.

What I am disputing is how PlayStation handles these situations and how little respect they show to paying customers.

I have two major concerns.

First: privacy.

If PlayStation is monitoring or recording communications to the extent that moderators can act on them, then users should be explicitly and transparently informed. I have never knowingly consented to having voice communications recorded or stored. If this is buried somewhere in a privacy policy, it deserves serious scrutiny particularly under EU data protection laws. Invoking GDPR does not automatically make something compliant, and the way this was explained to me was dismissive and condescending.

Second: the customer support experience is unacceptable.

When your account is suspended, the system tells you to contact customer support if you have questions.

So I did.I waited over 20 minutes navigating an automated menu. Then I was placed on hold for another 25 minutes before speaking to an agent. When I finally reached someone, they could not tell me what rule was broken, what was said, or what exactly triggered the suspension. The only information provided was: Your account is suspended and will be reinstated in 23 days according to our policies.

Thats it. No explanation. No evidence. No transparency.

When I asked to speak to a manager, the situation got worse.

The manager was aggressive, dismissive, and unprofessional. Instead of providing clarity, she chose to lecture me on how I should be parenting my child while still being unable (or unwilling) to tell me what my child actually said. Giving parenting advice without facts is not customer support; its arrogance.

The core issue here is simple:

PlayStation suspends access to paid services and communication features without explaining the reason, and then hides behind policy when customers ask for clarity.

As a long-time customer who pays for subscriptions, games, and hardware, I find this completely unacceptable.

You cant restrict access, remove communication rights, and then refuse to explain why especially when your own system explicitly tells users to contact support for answers.

Moderation without transparency is not fairness.

Customer service without accountability is not support.

This experience has left me questioning PlayStations respect for its customers, its approach to data privacy, and its ability to handle moderation issues professionally. Right now, it feels like once youre penalized, youre simply expected to accept it silently even when no one can explain what you supposedly did wrong.

That is not how a company of this size and reputation should operate.

User's recommendation: Change to Xbox.

PlayStation Cons: Customer service, Moderators are bots.

Your child has no business being online playing video games.

Also, the moderators are not bots. Next, you will accuse us of being bots.

I checked, the reason you were banned was not because of your son but because of you making inappropriate messages to minor girls. I doubt that you have a son.

Totally agree with you. If there is no transparency int why anyone’s account is suspended, then there is no argument to be penalise for something you don’t even know you did.

He did nothing, the child did. They read the terms and conditions they are guilty.

Using the term 'tyranny' shows immaturity. It is called following the terms and conditions and making anyone using your account do the same.

X box would react that way as well.

You are responsible for what your child posts. Stop playing the victim.

Playing victims this guy states? For what?

For seeking answers? Ah well let’s just silence anyone that has an opinion.

Simple fix, be transparent and clear on what rules are broken. Now everyone including this guys is giving lessons on how to parent, lol!

You are playing the victim by using the word tyranny. Maybe this is best that they suspended your account, you apparently cannot read.

If you could you would now why they are saying that you are playing the victim. Nor can you read the terms and conditions; anyone who posts on your account, you are responsible for.

This is a case of bad parenting.

I am not my son is

Your downfall in your argument is that you fail to grasp an online gaming network has a built-in population of children/minors. Behavior while online should be comparable to being in church.

I’m not arguing tolerance or behaviour I’m arguing the lack of transparency to what the supposed”moderation” is about. I’m all about respect and child safety but when the account is suspended the very least they should explain what specifically trigger the suspension in their “moderators’ view.

It’s about understanding the cause and not bluntly block your access for something you don’t even know what caused it. Simple, is not rocket science.

No it is not rocket science. You read through the terms and conditions.

You did not monitor your child.

Your fault. Stop acting like

Probably a paid PS staffer. What ever you think is your on busienss.

PS should Disclose what is wrong with moderation and not hide it, if something is genuinely wrong, then why not explicitly state how their “polices” are broken? You stop playing the good citizen mate, if you don’t agree, then don’t read other experiences, quite simple really.

Real mature giving your own comments a thumbs up and having your son do the same.
