Okay, this is a well deserved update. Two of the items I ordered did not fit well.

I was still leary of the online methods, so, I took the items back to the the Old Navy store near me today. I have to say, the customer service was excellent, and I was very pleased with the result. It took me 20 minutes to find what I needed and exchange the items. AND they gave me the price I paid online, even though the items were not EXACTLY identical.

I was also given a discount for a future purchase. SO, in all fairness to Old Navy, they did make it right with minimal fuss, and the merchandise is excellent as well.

I will still shop Old Navy, just not online. Hope this update was helpful.:)

Yeah, no, that's not what happened. Old navy charged me once for all items, then, when they shipped the first two items, they charged me again for those.

Then, they said they would continue to charge me twice each time they shipped an item. The only problem with that was that they had already charged me. When I spoke with my bank, they assured me the first charge was not an authorization, but it was an approved payment, and that if my account had been overdrawn because of the subsequent charges, it would have been a legitimate overage I would have had to pay. You can do what you want, but I will NEVER use my bank account to purchase online from Old Navy again.

I encourage others to refrain as well, and use other methods to pay. Upon further research, I found ON does the same thing with their OWN credit cards, and others have also said they had the same problem as me. Just glad it did not wreck my account.

You've all been warned. You are welcome...

Ladyscot, thank you for your comment, it gives me a chance to be VERY clear about what happened. I do ALOT of online shopping.

I am very aware of the authorization charges. They are .99, .79, 1.21. Remember, bank account control freak, here, no lie. PLEASE understand that this was a blatant DOUBLE charge, which my bank recognized as a debit card transaction, both times, and debited the monies.

I am not talking about a few dollars, I am talking about the ENTIRE purchase price of my merchandise, TWICE. So, if I spent $215.00, say, then I was charged double that. And, since my bank recognized both charges as debits, it could have caused an overage. THAT is what I am upset about.

THAT is what I need to warn people about, because Old Navy does not care. No authorization charge should cause an overage in my bank account. I did not authorize two payments. And the authorization charge would not drop off for a week?

That's not legal... And, yes, it was OLD NAVY that charged me twice, not my bank, it is the first question I asked the "investigator", and was confirmed by her and my bank. So, I reiterate, shop Old Navy online at your own risk, with your bank account. GOOD LUCK!

Hope you have bounce protection! :grin

I recently did some online shopping at Old Navy. I was not feeling like going to the mall after surgery, and I found some items I thought were a good deal.

This was my first time to buy from them online, so I had no idea about this NEVER heard of before "policy". I paid for my purchases using my debit card, and the payment came out of my account right away. I thought that was the end of my payment. WRONG!

Apparently, the initial payment is only considered an "authorization". But, it is an actual debit to your account. Once your items ship, you are are charged AGAIN. I noticed the extra charge for two of the items Old navy said had shipped, directly over my payment for the entire transaction.

I thought it was surely a mistake. WRONG, again. A totally clueless phone associate assured me the large "authorization" charge would reverse in 4 to 5 business days, and that the smaller, broken up charges at time of shipping, were the actual charges. She behaved as though this were completely rational and happens all the time.

The only problem with that is that since I was essentially charged TWICE for one transaction, my bank account was in danger of becoming overdrawn before the 4 to 5 days were up, and the erroneous "authorization" debit was reversed. There was no mention of this "policy", or "practice", any where on the web site, or when I was checking out. I am such a control freak about my bank account, I would never have agreed to that nonsense. My account could have been wrecked!

Soooo glad I check it twice a day! After a heated debate an with an "account investigator"(I kid you not), I was able to have her call my bank and have the "authorization" debit released early. PLEASE be careful paying with your bank account to Old Navy online. They don't think they are wrong, and they will NOT reimburse you for overages.

I will NEVER buy from Old Navy online again, unless I use a gift card or a pre-paid credit card. Shop at your own risk.

Contact your State Attorney General and file a complaint against Old Navy! DO NOT use your Bank Debit Card when ordering from them online unless you have at LEAST Double the amount of your purchase in your bank because they will charge your TWICE!! OLD NAVY IS SCAMMERS!!!!

Same thing happened to me today. I purchased from Old Navy on May 12th and they charged me again today, August 9th. I called, sat on hold for forever before finally speaking to a rep who said "they're aware of an issue with duplicate charge and will refund the money on Monday or Tuesday".

Exact same thing happened to me, paid for an order on May 8 and exact order just went through my bank again. Called customer service, she knew exactly what I was talking about and said my account would be refunded in 3 days...we shall see...

I am having the same issue. Placed an order May 11th $152.65 and was charge the same amount on the August 9th and it came up as โ€œin store purchaseโ€ but I havenโ€™t been in an ON store since prior to COVID lockdown.

Spoke to customer service and she knew exactly what I was talking about and told me by Monday at the latest I should see the refund. One of my biggest frustrations besides the obvious is the fact that this same exact scenario has been happening every single year as far back as 2013 from what I pulled up in my search. Thatโ€™s a HUGE red flag! I literally just got my brand new credit card in the mail a week ago today that had to be reissued due to fraud and exactly a week later this happens?

Also how is that possible on a brand new card with new everything!?! I havenโ€™t placed an ON order since May and I literally used my new card 1 time since I activated it last week and it was to buy groceries.

I received an email apologizing for a duplicate charge and gave a code for 10 percent off and free shipping. Yeah thatโ€™s not ok when my purchase was several months ago!

January 2019. I was debited TWICE on my card.

THIS WAS AN IN-STORE PURCHASE. Now I have to call 1800 Old Navy, it's Sunday and they're closed. I'm really upset about this and being almost 100.00. I called this Sunday morning and online problem operator answered saying they were only open to help me Mon-Fri.

If the second transaction doesn't get cleared up from my bank, I will than have to dispute this. This is very frustrating and time consuming. Lesson Learned at Old Navy. USE CASH!!!

Oh, the line took 15 minutes and kept growing. A woman finally called a manager in asking if we could please get more cashiers.

I was so thankful for that lady customer as we both made it happen....I wasn't going to complain about that, but thought I'd throw that in there. This is the Old Navy on Mall Ave.

I placed an order and received my package already, but they never bathed my debit card? Has this happened to anyone else?!?!

Guest

Same story! Talk about fraud. Regulators should pay more attention to this racket old navy, gap, and banana republic have going.

Guest

Just happened to me. Double charge and will hold all charges until all items ship which are on back order.

This is ridiculous and they said they do this because every online company does this. I do most my shopping online and have never had this happen with another company.

Guest

So glad I found your post online as I too am having the same problem. I've been charged once for my entire order and then again individually based on the total of the items in each shipment.

This is disconcerting for all the reasons you posted above as well because I'm now forced to double check every online purchase I've ever made with gap stores to ensure the duplicates are indeed reversed. Additionally the fact that ON thinks it acceptable to double charge is problematic and is reason enough for me not to do business with them anymore.

A "simple" call to the bank is not all it takes there is waiting period and a process that is far from "simple" easy to see how simpleminded ladyscot would so foolishly comment on something she clearly knows NOTHING about!

Guest

umadsis, it's a shame you had to explain something is so simple to ignorant ladyscot. The fact is, double charges happen, I had an ignorant employee swipe my card over and over again saying it wasn't going through and I finally had to yank the card away from her and tell her to wait a second or two to allow the transaction to go through and guess what my card was charged 7 times!

It took over a week for it to finally drop off all the extra charges from my account but I can imagine if someone didn't have enough funds to cover multiple transactions of $435.08 as was the amount in my case which came to over 3 thousand dollars. BTW the ignorant employee no longer works at the establishment as my complaint about her was not the only complaint, apparently this was an ongoing issue with that employee.
