Repeated failure of waterproof system on Optima series Miele dishwasher
I have enjoyed using my Miele dishwasher for 6 years. However, I have had to replace the Waterproof System 2 times.
First replacement was after 4 years, and the next one lasted 2 years. I learned from a large retailer/appliance Miele representative in my area that this repair is a very common, repeatedly replaced part in the Optima dishwasher. Miele technician representative blamed the part's short lifespan on the fact 1. my water is too hard, 2.
my hot water heater is set too high, and 3. the service technicians are not Miele trained. However, my neighbor's Miele dishwasher (different series) has not had any issues with hard water and my area's water does not require water softeners for dishwasher functioning. the service technician checked my hot water heater settings, and found them appropriate.
3. Factory trained technicians from a very responsibile retailer installed it correctly. This is a $318.00 service and labor cost I can expect every 2 - 4 years.
I have to buy the part to have on hand, as the dishwasher will be out of commission for 3 weeks, by the time the technicians can schedule me, then order the part, receive the part, and schedule the installation. Luckily, in the past, the breakdown (without warning) was not over a time where I have to prepare for holiday entertaining.
Reason of review: Bad quality.
Monetary Loss: $600.
Preferred solution: Manufacturer should pay for replacing Waterproof System in this model, as the numerous repairs required by this model, is worthy of 'recall'..
Miele Pros: Basket configuration.
Miele Cons: Repeated repair.
Location: Highland Park, Illinois

Same problem... really annoying
I have had the same exact issues and am now on replacement 3, 4 if you count the fact that I have 2 dishwashers and have had to replace the waterproof system on the second one as well. I would NEVER recommend this dishwasher again to anyone. Miele should be responsible for the cost of the ongoing service charges and replacement parts.
Mine just went for the fourth time. Last replacement was 16 months ago.
Miele tech said I need to put a cup of vinegar in glass rack about once a month because of hard water. Well - that clearly didnโt work. I see some have claimed to have gotten a redesigned part back in 2016.
Well my last replacement was April of 2018 for $420. Heading to local appliance store tomorrow to get something else.
Same thing. Waterproof system just went again. This will be the 3rd one in 10 years.
This is my same story. Miele Optima purchased and installed in 2008 by authorized dealer.
I have already replaced the waterproof system twice and now it has failed again. Do not buy Miele products.
Mine as well. DW installed July 2008.
1st failure March 2014.
Second failure May 2017. Unacceptable for a manufacturer claiming a high quality product.
I have the same experience with it failing.
Sorry to hear we are sharing the Miele dishwasher disappointment blues. I had to replace my 3rd (2 years after the previous repair) 'waterproof system' last week at a cost of $369.
Miele part was priced substantially higher this year. I've learned that the newest Miele dishwashers have a newly designed part.....but there is not a 'adapter' to use this part in my machine.
(I plan to do more research if this is true.)I did see a U-tube video on how to repair this part with ordinary parts. However, looks to me that it would not provide the protection of stopping water flow should there be an 'overflow' situation.see title "Miele Dishwasher No Longer Fills" by Quick and Easy 5 minute Appliance Fixes. Also title "Miele Dishwasher Intake/Draine Light--fill valve-- (FIXED) by Scottthefixitguy

I've had the same problem and the same B/S from meile except the part only lasts about one year. So I checked the water temp and its only 120 and soft.
Fits their parameters. Lo and behold, this time they tell me they redesigned the part because it failed so often.
I refuse to pay for the part and meile relents but I still have to pay $300 for a service call and labor and wait 3 weeks for them to "schedule" me. It's clear, the customer doesn't matter to meile.
