I've received phone calls for the last three days from someone claming to be with Midland Credit Managemenet. I'm posting this to help people understand that this is a SCAM just like someone sending you a bogus Nigerian Scam email. I have perfect credit and have never failed to pay on a credit account. Additionally I'm a police officer and rest assured, IT'S A SCAM.

#1 - When he calls you, don't fall for giving him the last four numbers of your Social Security Number, when he either asks or gives you four numbers that aren't yours.

#2 - Do ask him for his address, manager's name, phone number. You will likely get hung up on.

#3 - If you're really concerned, look up Midland Credit Management's phone number and call them during normal business hours. You will probably find they have no record of ever calling you or trying to collect money from you. Any legit collection agency should be willing to provide you will contact information so that you can call back after confirming he is who claims to be.

DON'T FALL FOR THE SCAM PEOPLE! The person calling sounds like he's overseas, maybe in India or some other country!

Location: Richardson, Texas

Thank you I used your tips and asked for a manager's name and number and I was hung up on

I get multiple calls daily from these idiots. I must have blocked 40 different phone numbers and they still keep calling.

Funny part is I have no bills other than house.

When I call the number back from my work line, I get an answer and told them I was filing a complaint for harrassment and she told me to go ahead if I felt that is what I needed to do. I work for lawyers so that is exactly what I am going to do!

Just called me. This is the 3rd time.

They had my right last name correct but was using my middle name instead of my first name. They called me at home AND at work!

They "said" they will put it as a wrong number after asking if I knew anyone with the name Elizabeth same last name as me. It was weird.

Thank you for the post, really helped

This dude started with *** Joe - I was busy and hung up quickly - All of my accounts are current, although there could be a hospital bill from three years ago floating around - The last time they called, I told him that the person he was looking for (He Said Joe) was actually Joe Mamma and that Joe Mamma wasn't there. After saying that a couple of times, he hung up quickly - lol

Scam for sure. First they call with a blocked number this is illegal according to federal law.

I know that the Midland Credit Management has been harassing me since January of 2009. It has been 8 years now.

I received a phone call again yesterday and I checked it out and it was spam. I decided to block the number on one of my cellphones.

I also blocked the number on the other cellphone just in case they hacked into my other cellphone. Why I am being harassed for a bill that is 9 years old.

now this comes through as scam email with a paypal invoice request

I received a letter stating I owed $693 to Credit One Bank. It's a scam!

I've never done business with Credit One. I reported them to our sheriff's department and the postal service reference mail fraud!

I to had calls from this Midland Credit Management for a bogus debt. They gave me the incorrect last four digits to my social.

This is definately a scam. I notified local police and the BBB.

After three days of getting calls for someone I've never had any affiliation with, I received the same call from an Indian gentleman purporting to collect on a T-mobile debt, asking me for the last four digits of my SSN - which I didn't give. He said, "You are talking on a cell phone.

I said, "no" - I never had a T mobile phone. He asked for someone (not my name but same last name, I said I wasn't the person and to please remove my number from their list. I then called back the phone no.

he called from and made the same request.

The Indian guy;s tone was very hostile - this to someone who has never even bought their product. But I will never in the future have a t-mobile phone if this is evidence of their customer treatment.

Jessica, this post is about a person/company pretending to be MCM... not the real company.

If you read the above post that you responded to he said to call MCM during normal business hours and they will probably have no record of contacting you. I too have been contacted by someone from India saying I owe a debt. The person calling was wrong, I had never incurred the debt they told me I owed. This post is saying if a creditor calls you do your research before handing over your personal information.

If the debt and company is legit they will provide the information you request to verify who they are. There are many scammers out there that will pretend to be with a collection agency but they are really trying to get your account info to steal you money.

Please read posts carefully before insulting someone. He wasnt telling anyone not to pay their debts, but just to be careful who you give your information to.

I just called them back after a missed call. I told them I missed the call.

A Indian gentlemen asked if this was the number I receiveed the call on. I replied yes. He asked for my name. I responded Ashley.

My name is not ASHLEY. He said he was looking for " first name last name" (of course it was my name). I replied I do not know her. He politely thanked me and said he would not call again.

It just goes to show you. If you research and find forums like this, your life can go back to normal without being scammed. In this day in time, Its a great feeling to owe no one and know that something is a scam.

For those of you like me who are trying to pay off old bills, It makes ot hard for you to trust anyone. Be Leary people!
