I bough 2 harbor breeze fans from lowes a little over a year ago. The first one I paid about $80 and after 3 months the motor burned up.

Went to lowes got a replacement. Then a few days ago the other one (Cost $100) broke. Now when i say broke what I mean is the "metal" arm (it is more of a plastic not metal) that holds the blade on broke and the fan blade flew accross the room and hit a window. Now we have 3 big fish tanks and an $800 tv that could have been the victim of this wooden missile flying through the house.

I contacted lowes and was told to contact harbor breeze so I did. I sat on hold for nearly 45 mins for a guy to finally tell me that they could send a replacement arm. I told him I want a completely different fan as obviously this fan is dangerous and he said there was nothing they could do... what!?

What if this thing would have hit someone or broke something major?

Why is it noone is liable for the merchandise they sell these days? Maybe I should contact a lawyer or something.

We installed our fan on the back porch last year. During a recent storm 3 of the blades broke off.

We had not had any problems up until now because I can't find replacements. If we have to replace the fan, going with a different brand.

My fan is a week old and the globe for light fell off and broke on my eleven year olds back. There is barely anything holding it up and if you use the fan it will vibrate loose thank god she was not hurt. These people need to be held liable for their junk this could have been a bad accident.

I had the same thing happen. The metal arm broke and the fan blade went flying!

Luckily it didn't hit anyone or anything. I cant find the replacement globe

for this fan at all.

Its an enclosed globe. I have a feeling they don't make them

anymore.

I know exactly what you are talking about.

My harbor breeze fan did the same thing. The are broke,,,,I mean the metal part actually broke while spinning a flew across the room and hit the shelve. The noise was horrific. My son was asleep in there,,,,his bedroom,,,,luckily he wasn't injured.

Lowes said they couldn't help because it was past 90 days.

I couldnt find my receipt,,,,don't think I kept , didn't think I would need it. Its a fan, for Pete's sake. :x :(

Most ceiling fans sold as Harbor Breeze are from Litex Industries. The issue with the blade arms is not new or a problem limited to Harbor Breeze. Most Home Center and retailers like Walmart and to your surprise, some VERY pricey showroom fans as well have this problem. The reason is in the final cost the units will sell at wholesale value. These importers and retailers choose to have their ceiling fans blade arms made out of remelted pig metal instead of cast iron.

Pig or pot metal is made with aluminum, non-virgin zinc alloy ( virgin zinc alloy must be certified as 99.95% or higher pure on the ASTM.) and some steel or iron depending on the weight of the blades.

This "beautiful (but dangerous) recipe" is very cheap. The blades chosen are made of MDF that's particle of fiber board, mulch, glue and lamination to make them look pretty (It's fake wood with formahadryde which is known to cause Cancer.) and most be 40gm. lighter than real hardwood veneer blades or else these things will break on the first week of operation.

With time, this formula becomes ineffective and looses it strength and that's when they break. Your best bet is to try the blade arm first. If the make the slightest move on you hands, they will break within the first year or sooner. If they are slightly more resistant, they will last a bit longer or until something hits them.

We also had a fan blade break off of a Harbor Breeze fan. It flew across the room and hit the wall, but my 4 children were in the room and one of them could have been the victim.

harbor breeze is dangerously cheap!

Just a loose blade. Not professionally secured by the installer.
