Bugs inside my Keurig coffee maker
There are cockroaches living inside my Keurig coffee maker. They are no where else in our kitchen. We have cleaned out every cabinet and closet. Every thing in our pantry is enclosed in a sealed plastic bag or glass jar. So, there is something inside the coffee maker that attracts these bugs.
I called Keurig to find out whar to do about the problem. They acknowledged that other people have complained about the bug problem. They feel it is not worth investigating further because of the number of complaints compared to the number of units shipped. Nor did they offer any suggestion of how to get rid of them. If you google "Keurig infested", you will see a whole page of people with this problem.
Keurig did offer a discount on a new unit. But, we have lost confidence in the coffee maker and Keurig's customer service.

Same exact issue with my Keurig
It could be your coffee machineโฆor, more likely, itโs your home. Roaches just LOVE three things: dark, wet, and warm.
And guess what a coffee maker is? A warm nest with an endless supply of fresh water and plenty of dark places to set up shop. Ours just stopped working yesterday, and I know itโs the roaches. Theyโve also set up shop in our Wi-Fi router, the game console, the cable box, the smoke detectors, the Glade outlet fresheners, the toaster, even the chest freezer.
And since we live in a massive apartment building with really sub-par pest control, they just keep coming from somewhere. And our apartment is as clean as it gets with a small child, so itโs not due to cleanliness. Pretty sure weโll have to ditch the Kuerig, we already had to throw away the toaster and Iโm laying down Delta Dust everywhere every few weeks. And sure, they can come in on delivered parcels.
But it only takes one female with eggs to set up an infestation, so itโs equally likely one hitched a ride from another location in a bag, a shoe, on a letter in the mailโฆtheyโre a completely entrenched species and can survive just about anywhere. And the post office is a great place with lots of cardboard (which is basically crack to roaches).
Same issue. I made a cup of coffee this morning.
Added cream and then went to take a sip and a small floating bug. Upon further horrified inspectionโฆ roach like creature. OMG sadly this thing is going in the trash and Iโm getting a regular coffee maker. Itโs just me at home so one cup was convenient.
Been in my house 7 years never a problem. Have an exterminator quarterly just because I hate bugs.
No issue anywhere in the house except the machine! Iโm thoroughly horrified.
Stink
This is so awful! I had a Keurig in my office, as well.
On three occasions, I saw roaches coming from the keurig. I general cleaned it each time.
Still they continued to appear from no where, so I threw it away. Its not worth drinking coffee from those little nasty things.
My Keurig, which I loved, as a water bug problem. No where else in the house.
Opened the top to insert coffee pod, and saw the bug crawl into the machine. Yuck!. Turned the machine upside down to get the bug out., then saw another one inside. Sooo gross.
How many others are inside? I dont care how Im supposed to clean this, I can never trust the Keurig is completely bug free. In the trash it went.
PS I googled water bugs in Keurig. Was really surpised Im not the only one with this issue.
I have been soaking a paper towel with bug spray and putting it under the Keurig. It works for a while and then you have to replace it.
I recently have discovered little bugs around my Keurig. I couldnโt figure out where they were coming from.
Well after going through the cleaning process with vinegar I realized they had to be coming from inside the machine since they were in the vinegar water being dispensed. This is repulsive.
I canโt begin to imagine how many I might have drank in my coffee unknowingly. Keurig needs to do something about this!
I also have bugs in my keurig. Come on Keurig do something about it. Your infested and sending out infested units.
Same problem!! Is there a bug safe k-cup coffee maker?
OMG just threw out my Keurig too. I saw them all around the machine but thought they came from behind sink.
Moved the pot to the island a little babies started crawling around.
No more coffee pods just a good ol mr coffee. Hope they are gone.
I canโt believe it!!! Almost every morning for the past couple weeks Iโve seen a roach, but only on or near my Keurig.
Now that Iโve seen all of this, Iโm not sure I want to keep drinking my coffee. I canโt afford to just go out and buy a new one:( very sad
Same for me. I had a Keurig previously.
No bugs. When it broke, I replaced it with a new one from bestbuy. A couple of weeks after I started using it I noticed a disgusting toach sitting on the top of the machine. I moved into my home 4 years ago, NEVER a roach.
Very clean kitchen. I spent $100+ on an exterminator. He put some "bait" in strategic spots. Still roaches.
Then I went to the internet and read how I am not the only one. I immediately threw my Keurig in the trash. It was relatively new. I had only used it for maybe 1 month.
I loved the brushed copper color and the features and I was sad that I no longer will EVER use another Keurig. I spent $160 on it. Definitely didnt want to throw it in the trash. I contacted keurig after throwing it out.
They said they can only send me another one. Bestbuy wouldn't take it back because they only give 30 days to return it. (Wasted time with exterminator) I'm done with Keurig.
I've been on instant coffee for about 6 months now. Might move to a french press next.
Update on the previous post. We discovered the German roaches in the Keurig right around/during Christmas break.
Out Terminix professional said the German roaches (most likely to infest coffee makers) cannot survive outdoors, that they have to be BROUGHT into the house. Well, it all suddenly made sense. Everything that we bought for Christmas this year was purchased online. We had a mountain of boxes sitting in the dining room for about two weeks waiting to be opened and wrapped.
That's where they came from, and he confirmed that. The timing was just too coincidental.
So if you order stuff online, make sure that you open it immediately, and dispose of the box in your OUTSIDE garbage/recycling bin. Because the German roaches live in office buildings, and warehouses, and they will come in with the item in the box.
I also found the German *** roaches in my Keurig. I descaled with vinegar, changed out the filter, and took the removable parts out and washed in soapy water (found three more dead ones when I did that).
We have had Terminix treating our house for American *** roaches. They insisted we did not have the German, but when I told him about the infestation of the Keurig, he changed his tune. My daughter showed him a picture she took of one that she killed in the kitchen, and he confirmed we had the German now too. I moved the cleaned Keurig to another area of the kitchen, and the little suckers were right back inside it after a week.
We ordered pretty much everything we bought for Christmas online, so had a lot of boxes arriving daily.
I'm hoping that's how we got them, and that throwing out the Keurig will be the end of them. We had almost gotten rid of the bug problem till these guys showed up.
If you guys have roaches it is not the coffee maker!! i had little white tiny bugs in mine. Your home is infested with cockroaches stop blaming Keurig!!
You are totally wrong
Read the internet - these bugs are infested in the machines at the warehouse level !
Okay threw mine out - Iโm very clean. Then girlfriend had them in hers in a different location!!!
Iโm convinced they are a good % of them as larva or the nymph stage - which they are little black bugs that look harmless. Iโm through with Keurig
i just threw mine out today . same problem for me my condo is very clean had a few in my pot put in the freezer for an hour killed them even left the front of the pot off an still had them they must have laid eggs because these this time where real tiny anyways tossed it
