Iron Workers or The International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers is a union in the United States and Canada, which represents, trains and protects primarily construction workers, as well as shipbuilding and metal fabrication employees. The union was formed in 1896. It happened at a meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with 16 delegates from the local unions in Boston, Massachusetts, Buffalo, New York, Chicago, Illinois, Cleveland, Ohio, New York City, New York, Detroit, Michigan, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh. It was intended to represent ironworkers who work on bridges, structural steel, ornamental, architectural, and miscellaneous metals, rebar, and in shops across North America. The most well-known construction projects that members of the union have worked on are the Golden Gate Bridge, the Sears Tower, the St. Louis Arch, and the Oil Sands Plant Expansion in Alberta, the World Trade Center, and now Freedom Tower, etc. Currently Iron Workers represents 120,000 members in North America. It is located in Washington, D.C.
