I arrived for my entry inspection and handover of the keys for my unit on Monday 31 January 2022. During the inspection the agent walked me through the property to check if everything was in working order.

Among the things she inspected was the kitchen stove and oven which she left switched on.

Upon moving in the following day, 1 February 2022 I found the stove and oven were still switched on and smoke had engulfed the entire apartment. The cupboards in the kitchen were badly damaged. Upon this realisation I immediately went to the agent's office and reported the incident. The agent did not dispute fault on her part and went on to report the matter to the maintenance officer.

I received communication from the maintenance office the following morning and he came to check and assess the damage.

In the days that followed other assessments were done and the following was agreed to telephonically between myself and the maintenance officer;

1. All walls in the unit would be freshly painted

2. The kitchen would be repaired and returned to the condition it was in prior to the damage that occured before I occupied the property

3. I would stay in my current unit as moving to another unit would be a timeous administrative process.

It is with great disappointment that I am still living in a burned apartment with filthy walls from the smoke.

I have not heard any further communication regarding what actions will be taken to restore my unit to a dignified and habitable condition. I also submitted a maintenance query regarding the latch on my front door, that has also not been attended to.

IHS Property is literally the worst management property ever. The Property manager is completely incompetent. He always responds a week later claiming he was out of the office this is absolutely insane, and while I am being put through this madness I am being charged the full rental amount.

I don't even want to get into the impact breathing smoke for 3 months straight has had on my health. PLEASE NEVER EVER USE THESE PEOPLE THEY DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YOUR WELL BEING.

User's recommendation: Run far, and then run even further way from this management company.

Preferred solution: Restore my apartment to the state it was in on the day of the viewing.
