"While driving my 2012 Sonata it started to have loose steering then started to hesitate frequently. While driving it started to hesitate and a metallic clanking noise ensued while attempting to accelerate at 20 - 30 miles per hour. Drove to dealership and was told the steering would be taken care of. Was also told the oil had metal shavings which was effecting the motor. The car is under warranty, this is a known issue. The service department is trying to get out of the repairs stating the oil changes were not done by their dealership service department. I am 500 miles from my home working in Irving, TX. I purchased the vehicle new at this dealership while working here in 2012. I travel to various locations for work. My home when I am not working is over 100 miles from any Hyundai dealership and 500 miles from this dealership, They are imposing an extreme hardship on me as I am working 7 days a week 11 hours a day. They have not provided me with a courtesy car and are requiring documents that are at my home 500 miles from here. The vehicle is at risk of stalling and is a crash risk in its present condition."

I would recommend that Hyundai honor its warranty. I am 500 miles from my home and I do not have access to the information they are requesting. I do not have the requested documentation in my possession, custody, or control at this time. Hyundai cannot legally refuse to deny warranty coverage simply because my routine oil changes and tire maintenance were done by someone else. I travel for a living and I usually go to a walmart or pull in to a quick lube establishment where ever I happen to be working. When I am at my home I am over 100 miles from the nearest Hyundai dealership. My last oil change was in Feb 2016 with minimal mileage incurred since this oil change.

Using a Hyundai dealership for routine maintenance is not always practical or available in the areas I am in. The only mechanical failure repairs done to my vehicle were done by Freeman Hyunda where I purchased the vehicle newi. Honestly it would be easier and less time consuming on my part to get professional legal help after time lost from work, not to mention the legwork I would still have to do. This would in the bigger scheme of things also be much costlier for Freeman auto and Hyundai. I have had my oil changed every 5000 to 7000 miles since I purchased the vehicle. I do the same thing with my Chevy truck which runs great after 11 years and Chevrolet has never given me any problems with the warranty while it was in effect or their service.

I am here in Irving, TX for a work assignment. I work 7 days a week 10 hours a day. Freeman Hyundai is being unresponsive and uncaring about my financial interest and the safety of the vehicle. There are state and federal regulations regarding safety issues that regulate the automotive industry. I have not driven my vehicle since these mechanical problems began except to directly to the service department as the vehicle appeared to be unstable and a possible safety hazard.

I was considering buying my next vehicle from Freeman Hyundai but this has given be pause. I object to the request and in reviewing my warranty coverage do not see that the dealership has to be aware of my oil change schedule, the type of oil or filter used or the purchase date. I have also been made aware by another Hyundai dealership which I spoke to this morning that Hyundai has already recalled almost a half million of its Sonata sedans for what sounds very much like the problem the Freeman Hyundai service department described that my Sonata as having.

This prompted me to visit Hyundai online where I discovered they also recalled a large amount of vehicles for steering issues. As a matter of fact there is a rather long list of recalls for Sonatas produced since 2010. I will not compromise my safety or quality of life because of Freeman Hyundai's failure to make the needed repairs to my vehicle which is under warranty.

A car purchase is one of the biggest investments a person will make. I expect my dealership to honor the warranty and make any needed repairs with factory replacement parts. I am reminding Hyundai of the promises made when selling me this vehicle and Freeman Hyundaiโ€™s obligation to stand behind their product. This is a Freeman Hyundai service department and I am taking this issue with the service department up the corporate ladder as needed. Freeman Hyundai will be forcing me to seek legal help if the mechanical failure to my vehicle is not honored under the warranty.

I have made complaints with the Attorney General of Texas, the Federal Trade Commission, safecar NHTSA as well as others. I would recommend anyone having similar problems with Hyundai to start complaining with their state government bodies, federal regulators and online complaint boards.
