The Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) System activates intermittently while driving and cuts the throttle to idle speed for a variable length of time - usually about 10 seconds. It does not matter what you do with the gas pedal during this time.

This is extremely dangerous when driving in traffic. The car runs great if the system is disabled using a push button, but this has to be done every time the car is restarted and it is easy to forget if your are making a series of short trips. My local (excellent) mechanic could not diagnosis the root cause of the problem and recommended that I take it to a dealer. The dealer told me the root cause was that the engine was misfiring and this was triggering the VSA system to kick in.

They charged me $1009 to adjust and clean the valves and replace the spark plugs. This did not fix the problem. I let them keep it again for 2.5 days and they still could not diagnose the root cause of the problem. The only thing they can find wrong is a faulty rear engine mount that they want $900 to repair, but they would not guarantee that would fix my serious safety problem.

I contacted Honda Customer Service via mail, because I am currently working on project in Europe and the 800 number is expensive to use from overseas. Their representative called my at 10:00 PM local time (even though I explained in my letter that I am currently plus 9 hours from West Coast time)and told me that they would not even take any action on my issue unless I have the Engine Mount repaired although they could offer no evidence that the engine mount was related to my VSA problem. They made it clear that Honda American will provide no financial assistance for this issue since the car is not under warranty. I think it totally unfair for them to expect me to fund a trial and error repair approach for such a serious issue.

My concern is that I will pay for additional $900 to get my car in A-1 mechanical condition and still be driving a death trap. The lack of concern from the Honda America's Customer service is unbelievable. They would not even give me an e-mail address for correspondence which would make it much more practical for me to communicate with them.

My one conversation so far with Honda customer service cost me about $40 in roaming charges!

Monetary Loss: $1009.

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina

My son-in-law had the same issue with his 2005 Ody. We found the problem on the right front wheel.

The cable from the sensor was loose and during a left turn it tuched the drive axle. This was going on for a while because the cable insulation was ground all the way down to the wire.

The drive axle has a boot with a metal clamp witch shorten out the bare wire.

The fix was: Electric tape as insulator (each wire seperatly) , then both together. Finely, use a wire tie to fasten the cable away form the axle shaft.

I hope this will help you as well.
