I was refused alcohol at my HEB today on South Congress as my ID was not accepted...my UK Passport!!! Really?!

I have recently moved to this country so I don't have a US Passport, nor do I have a US driving licence yet. My passport, which lets me travel the world and which is the most recognized form of ID on the planet, is against HEB policy?! So basically any visitors from outside the US may not buy alcohol from an HEB...what a welcome to the country. To make matters worse the supervisor was not very nice to me and did nothing to even explain other then 'This cashier has refused to sell you alcohol'.

The gentleman next to me in line offered to buy me a bottle of wine as he thought their policy was ridiculous too. I declined his very kind offer as I didn't want him to pay for their *** policy.

Monetary Loss: $40.

Location: Austin, Texas

ImpossibleQuokka is clearly unemployed and spends their time trolling. On your day off, as an employed person, check out the hundreds of comments he/she/sadfuck has made...it filled a whole minute of my time.

It would not matter either way if you had valid ID or not in their policy, clearly you are not old enough to drink if you mistake not getting your way as the employee not being nice.

Iโ€™m 42..and in 2013 I was 34. So, your comment is null and void. Thanks for playing.

I had a cashier today at a pizza place in the H-E-B off of red river do the same thing. It was less his refusal to sell me alcohol (even though I look at least 40) but rather his smug, VERY rude attitude throughout the entire conversation. Iโ€™ll definitely be filing a complaint with the manager at this store about this workerโ€™s poor attitude.

The LAW ONLY requires a passport. THE LAW does NOT specifiy that ONLY a US passport is valid .

Therefore it is HEB policy not the lawSec. 106.03. SALE TO MINORS.

(a) A person commits an offense if with criminal negligence he sells an alcoholic beverage to a minor.(b) A person who sells a minor an alcoholic beverage does not commit an offense if the minor falsely represents himself to be 21 years old or older by displaying an apparently valid proof of identification that contains a physical description and photograph consistent with the minor's appearance, purports to establish that the minor is 21 years of age or older, and was issued by a governmental agency. The proof of identification may include a driver's license or identification card issued by the Department of Public Safety, a passport, or a military identification card.

Must be a tough life since you can't get alcohol or tobacco anywhere else other than HEB or Kroger.... Lol

You missed the point anonymous. Besides later the OP admitted to being 18. I don't know about UK but here you have to be 21 to drink.

Must be tough if she needs alcohol to be welcomed to a country. There are other places she can get it, both legal and illegal.

Besides from her behavior I doubt it matters if her ID is valid or not. She is obviously too young to drink.

She claimed to be 18 and old enough to drink. But she does not know the drinking age here is 21.

Lol...Iโ€™m just stating that itโ€™s bs to not be allowed to buy alcohol... WITH A PASSPORT.

IF you canโ€™t see that, thatโ€™s ironic and hilarious. I found other places, itโ€™s all good. My behaviour?

Iโ€™ve corrected it. My country has been around longer than yours but you may not know that.

Iโ€™m not an H-E-B employee...so, No, not a tough life

H-E-B only takes U.S issued ids. we are actually not required to tell you the reason besides that we're sorry and we are unable to make the sale.

Fool. You cannot sue someone because they refuse service.

Stop being foolish. They have a right to refuse service you fool. Get a job instead of suing.

SIlly child. Probably would not be able to get the alcohol anyway since you are under 21.

Sorry to read this. I'm an HEB employee and during my TABC (Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission) training, I was taught that foreign passports cannot be used as proof of age when buying alcohol or cigarettes.

Sorry for the inconvenience! I just wanted you to know that we're trained and taught to not accept invalid forms of IDs for our own sake (in the case of being audited, etc.).

Requiring ID is only a company policy and not law

WRONG!!! Itโ€™s FEDERALLY REGULATED!!

Yes it is the law.

If you chose to show your ignorance further I suggest that you attend a alcohol and tobacco permit class where it is all explained to you. Yes there SHOULD be common sense but itโ€™s those instances where one of YOUR CHILDREN have cost that business money in fines that causes them to NOT use common sense.
