I ordered several pairs of Hanes Sheer Energy pantyhose when they were on sale. They arrived smelling musty, like mildew.

I washed them thinking that this would solve the problem. NO. Now I am stuck with stinky hose. I tried wearing one pair to work, hoping that I was just being over sensitive to the odor.

Wow. My body heat magnified the odor and I spent the day feeling very self-conscious. I am going to try some suggested mildew removing tips like vinegar rinses and hanging them outside to dry. I thought that I was being so thrifty by buying my favorite hose in bulk.

What I joke.

I threw my money away. I will never buy a Hanes product again.

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Monetary Loss: $65.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Hanes Cons: Bad smell.

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia

I have had the same issue. It is now 2022 and I still have had an issue of chemical moldy smelling Leggs Panty hose.

There is a systemic problem with Hanes opaque tights. Earlier this month I purchased 5 pairs of the opaque tights at a drugstore.

I brought the tights home. While opening the packages to wash them, I noted a musty smell. I really did not think much about it. I washed the tights.

After the load was done, the lingerie bag and the washing ,machine drum had a strange orange color. I ran the load again. The tights smelled weird. I washed them again, same thing.

I had thrown out the receipt, and had no proof of purchase. Since I could not return the tights I threw them out. I assumed this was a problem unique to the store. I then ordered 4 pairs on the Hanes web site.

The delivery was going to take some time, so I also ordered a pair of premium perfect opaque tights from a national retailer. The retainer pair arrived. The retailer pair also smelled musty and left an orange tint in the washing machine. There is no water problem, the orange color only appeared when the tights were washed.

I also washed this pair several times, and could not get the smell out. The Hanes order arrived. The tights smelled musty. I washed opened one package and washed the tights.

Once again the machine had an orange tint and the tights still smelled. I have soaked the tights in a basin, after the tights are in the water for 10 minutes the water turns orange and has a very strong musty smell. This issue has occured with three different purchase, from three different retail sources. The problem must be occurring at the manufacturing or shipping level.

The tights not only smell bad, but if I am near them for more than a brief period of time, my nose runs, my skin itches and I get a headache.

I have now emailed the company about the problem and will be getting rid of them since they cannot be worn and this is seems more than a problem of old product or a one off. I have now found several reviews on other sites referencing the same issue.

I had the same problem. I just ordered a few pairs from Spanx, I figured they were made well and would last longer, Opened the first pair they smell like mold, I hung them up overnight to see if the smell would come out and it smells worse.

Just happened to me too! Bought my usual 3 month supply of Sheer Energy nylons from OneHanesPlace.com and as soon as I took the shipping bag out of my mail box I was awash in the sickening smell of mold/mildew!

I thought it was just the outer bag but when I opened it up, I realized the smell was coming from the nylons inside. So gross!

Now I have $40/12 pair of hose that are so stanky I canโ€™t wear them. What IS the problem with our nylons?

I don't know if it's from coming from a wet, slow boat from China or what the issue is, but I've had the same problem with every single pair of L'Eggs pantyhose I've ever bought! I have to air them out for days before I can even wear them, and even then they still smell awful!

It's really a shame, because I really love them, but the smell! It would be nice to see them made in the USA!!

I agree with of you ladies...and they still smell of a musty scent. As if the y had been sitting in the basement or from a stored warehouse... so DISAPPOINTING!

Leggs also. Horrible smell

Janet Horrible mildew smell! If ever I am dumb enough to buy Hanes again, I will get the store manager and open up the package and see if the pantyhose passes the smell test before buying!! Then I ask the store manager why they buy stinky Hanes!!!

I have been having the same problem with both Spanx and Maidenform pantyhose. I'm assuming they all ship from the same location.

Have wasted a lot of money on stinky pantyhose that rip in just a couple of wears.

No idea what the solution is. Spraying them with Febreez a couple of times after washing and letting them air out helped a little.

Same here -- bought a pair of black Hanes tights at CVS over the weekend in NYC -- was planning to wear them immediately -- nope! The mildew stench is totally overpowering. That's the last time I will EVER purchase anything from Hanes.

I have just had a very similar situation with some Leggs Pantyhose. I bought two different pairs at two different stores. They both smell musty.

The same thing happened to me! Anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of the smell?

OMG!!! The same thing happened to me.

I purchased 2 pairs of pantyhose from Walmart. 2 different colors and styles. When I first put them on I smelled it right away, I spayed my very expensive perfume up and down my legs with hope it just needed to air out. While in the car, all I could smell is the musty mildew and I do not sweat!

Also a run began in the middle of the foot immediately WfootI ripped them off in the car and I opened the second box and the different color and style smelled the same. I was disgusted and my skin still smelled musty. I was uncomfortable in my shoes and evening gown the entire evening. Very Upset!

The next day I washed the second pair without the run 2 times on the heavy duty cycle with Oxy powder and Oxy detergent in a screened bag for intimates. Then hung them outside the entire day to dry. Unbelievable they still had that strong awful smell. Sorry Hanes, but you lost many customers after I told EVERYONE at the wedding friends and family.

Very much disgusted customer. If sales are going down THIS IS WHY

It is September 2019 and my new Sheertex hose arrived stinking of musty mildew!!! It is so pervasive I had to tio them off and I just bet I cannot get that stank out..I am so sad...

but am returning them immediately. Why oh why are they letting this great opportunity slip out of their hands?!

I am really disappointed about the moldy smell in my L'Eggs brand stockings. I have bought other products that have been imported from China with the moldy smell.

The previous comments say that these stockings are manufactured in El Salvador, which is tropical.

It would seem that there are numerous problems with shipping goods overseas. Probably would be best to manufacture these in the good old US of A.

I don't believe this! I finally got most of the smell out of the ones I had.

bacon soda and vinegar was the most effective. Done! Right? Wrong!

All 6 pair began to show small orange dots mostly in the toe area and spread like wildfire to all of my hose, including very pricey stockings! They claim they know nothing I claim they are full of it!

(being nice). No more for me, thank you~

I did the same. I bought many pair to save my money 2x in the wash, 2x in vinegar, 2x in perfumed bubble bath.

Another waste of my money. Frankly, I'm getting SICK OF IT!!!!!

Guest

Omg!!!! Same thing here!

I bought a couple pairs at Meijer. I couldn't believe the mildew smell! It smelled like the warehouse flooded and they let the pantyhose dry and sold them.

After three washes the smell is still there! Never again will I buy this product!

Mandee Hhh

The same happened to me recently. Mine were Leggs medium support pantyhose.

I bought 5 pairs and cannot get that moldy smell out of them. Makes me sick!

Guest

I have the same problem. I even sent an email expressing my concerns and they sent me a coupon.

The new pair still smell like mildew, I will definitely not buy anymore. I don't know why they smell so bad.
