The device was constantly telling me the maps and software are over a year old, to which i was thus inclined to plug it into a computer and update the software. Note: the device was working perfectly before this and i had no other reason to update the software other than to remove the annoying reminder that popped up each time i tuned it on.

Now i have a paper weight, the software update causes the device to constantly turn on and off, never making it to the full-on-scenario. I called support and they said its out of warranty and we will offer you 40% off your next device. The trouble is why should i pay anything?.

I searched the possibility of similar cases and sure enough this is common with Garmin devices and software updates.

Garmin knows this. They automatically had an offer of 40% 'but that is all we have authorization to pay', which indicates a regular instance of this happening. Now I feel why should software have this effect? to get you to buy more?

this is not a brand i will buy again. To add insult further, I had a *** experience with a 'Support person' called Cindy who suggested it was my fault for not updating the device earlier and also for not updating the maps [pay for it] sooner. Really? my fault?

she should be fired. What an attitude.

Monetary Loss: $300.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.
