We have had Esurance for about three years. Both my spouse and I are the insured, and we both have perfect driving records. Our monthly payment was around $200 for two vehicles, a truck and a car. Esurance did raise their rates a little each time we renewed, but it wasn't ever enough to cause us to consider changing insurance companies. I wish we had!

In April, my husband scuffed a parked car in a parking lot while he was backing out. Esurance was quick to handle everything, and they cut us a check for repairs to our vehicle. Everything was great, until my next payment came due. Esurance more than doubled my monthly payment to $480. At the time, we were still considering keeping Esurance and paying the higher rate because we were so pleased with the response we had received when we filed the claim. During this time, it flooded badly here, and my car was ruined. I filed another claim with Esurance, and the agent told me that this particular claim wouldn't count against my premium. So I removed my car from the policy after Esurance evaluated it, totaled it, and paid it off with the leanholder. A few days later, Esurance sends me an email that my policy is up for renewal, and the rate will increase my monthly charge to $580. A few days later, I get ANOTHER email that says my policy has been renewed, and the monthly rate will now be $830!

Let me say it again: Eight hundred and thirty dollars a month for one small accident, the first of which in YEARS for either of us. For coverage of ONE vehicle.

I sent Esurance an email, inquiring about why they thought this significant rate increase was applicable, and it's been about two weeks and I have received no response. Based on other reviews I have read here and elsewhere, this is nothing new. It seems to me as though Esurance doesn't want to leave a paper trail that can be used for reference, since their customer service and claims agents are notorious for lying when they have you on the phone. If you absolutely *have* to interact with these clowns, try to get EVERYTHING they tell you in writing, because they will lie, and they will lie hard. I assume this is why they do not offer live chat services on their website.

Since I've filed the claims, I have had so much trouble getting in touch with customer service at Esurance. I have been hung up on twice, transferred before I can even finish what I'm saying, and straight up lied to. I'm so done with Esurance, it's not even funny.

We got a quote from both Allstate and State Farm, and including the accident, rates from these REAL insurance companies is far less cheaper than $830 a month. To expect an otherwise good driver to pay four or five times more than they were initially paying for one very minor accident is unreal. Of course our rates will go up, but to $830? Unreasonable, and unethical.

Do yourself a favor and purchase insurance from a local agent, someone you can meet with, look in the eye, and shake hands with. Don't use these criminal fly-by-night companies. The money you save will be meaningless if you ever have to file a claim with them. We are dropping Esurance like a bad habit, and I highly recommend you do, too.

Reason of review: Pricing issue.

Preferred solution: I just want to be rid of these liars. .

Esurance Pros: Yuck.

Esurance Cons: Cancellation fee, Whole experience.

Location: Houston, Texas

You do know esurance is owned by Allstate and a branch of Allstate, right? If you use Allstate, you're still giving money to esurance.
