Deuk Spine recently made changes that effects patients with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Tricare insurance. They donโ€™t tell you this upfront.

I found out when I tried to schedule a discography diagnostic procedure and was told I had to pay, in advance and separate from my copay, a $2700 deposit. I was told it would be refunded afterwards and they offered a 10% discount if I paid immediately that day. The next day, a three-way call with me, Deuk Spine and a Blue Cross rep revealed the procedure would be done at Surgery Center at Viera (SCV). SCV shares a building with Deuk Spine (7955 Spyglass, Melbourne, Fl) and Dr.

Deuk operates both. I had procedures at SCV in July/August 2015 and Blue Cross paid the cost because SCV was an โ€œin-networkโ€ facility. In November 2015, I was told SCV is only โ€˜in-networkโ€ on certain days and for Blue Cross patients, the discography procedure is โ€œout-of-networkโ€. The Blue Cross rep reminded me that they do not cover costs for out-of-network facilities.

Therefore, Iโ€™d have to pay the total cost of the discography, which was $22,000. It seems Deuk Spine requested the $2700 deposit because SCV is out of network and they needed a down payment on the $22,000 Iโ€™d have to pay. Unfortunately, Deuk Spine was not going to disclose this, the person on the phone seemed annoyed that I asked.

Patient Beware, you should verify in advance whether your insurance will cover procedures performed at SCV, otherwise you could be stuck with a huge bill after the fact.

I had the exact same experience. I dealt with a very rude and unprofessional woman named, Robin.

Patients beware and stay clear of this place. ANY OFFICE ASKING FOR A DEPOSIT IS A RED FLAG.

Thank you for your recent comment. Yes, unfortunately Surgery Center of Viera is out of network with BCBS and Tricare.

I also have BCBS and was put through the same process of making a down payment. May I ask why your office wouldn't disclose the necessary information of SCV not being in network bit still took my money only to have the procedure denied by BCBS.
