My father has been a dialysis patient for 7 years and is nearing the end of his life. He is also currently a hospice patient.

My father is completely clear minded and able to make his own decisions. He has not decided to terminate his dialysis at this point, yet the dialysis center at colonial springs appears to be doing everything they can to not give him his treatment. I am currently looking to transfer him to a facility that has a bed where he can lie down and be dialyzed because the chairs at Davita are extremely uncomfortable on his "skin breakdown" on his rear end. Rather than help shift him to a more comfortable position, they simply leave him the way he is in agony.

It was very apparant to me today that one nurse in particular does NOT want to continue giving my dad his treatment.

I expect them to do their *** job as long as he wants to come. I am extremely disappointed in Colonial Springs, Marietta, GA

Location: Marietta, Georgia

I am an ICU supervisor at a major hospital in Alaska. Technicians, nurses, and ancillary personnel at Fresenius and now Liberty - which is owned by Fresenius - can only find work at these incompetent facilities.

Fresenius is a wastebasket for incompetent medical personnel unable to find a job elsewhere. We frequently see the "mistakes" and the abuse. Far too often, we hear of horror stories and people being refused treatment. Too bad Fresenius doesn't hire qualified personnel and pay them as well as they pay their legal team.

Fresenius and now Liberty pays hundreds of millions of dollars in fines constantly.

They don't repair the problem, just pay the fines. If your loved one is a veteran, go to the media, they are quite willing to listen to these stories right now.

This complaint is with a Davita clinic, not Fresenius. Sounds like you are a bitter former employee.

In response to "dialysis nurse" you give good nurses everywhere a bad name. As a an administrator for a Davita clinic, it is ABSOLUTELY your responsibility to reposition the dialysis pt while on dialysis.

Remind me to never send one our pts to Stone Mountain. I think your location completely describes your heart.

I am sorry you are having these problems but in all fairness it is not the nurses responsability to reposition your dad because if they get hurt they are out of work without pay but if your dad is at home and being turned like he should be he would not have open areas on his coccyx

In all fairness, it is difficult to care for patients that need more care in an outpatient setting. You will find he would get better care with home dialysis as he could stay in his environment and a home dialysis company can come to him.

Perhaps this is a more viable option.

Davita will not share these options with patients families because it causes them to loose money. I know someone that does home dialysis, she even goes to the nursing homes to give dialysis.

In our case, we use the ambulance stretcher to do dialysis. The ambulance picks him up and transports him to the dialysis center and he lays on the stretcher while being dialyzed. You need a doctor's order to do this though.

That is nice, Maybe I will suggest that too, But I agree that home dialysys is a beyyer option for extremely dibilitated patients. I have lost both parents and had a dear loved one on dialysis but sometimes you must let go.

If they still have good quality of life I understand keeping them going on. But...I have seen grown children keep pushing a suffering elderly parent to take a treatment that they themselves would not do!!!!All just to keep the parent alive at any cost even their suffering!

Sometimes they just are too self-absorbed to let go, or they are getting a check for that poor old soul! :sigh

I work in a Davita Clinic, and in all fairness, I have seen and talked to PT's who WANT to stop treatment, and they are forced to come by either a spouse, or their children. In my opinion this is selfish, a grown adult with the ability to reason and make decisions has a right to chose to stop treatment.

I have never seen it happen that a staff member will act in a way that indicates they want a PT to stop treatment. But all PT's should be aware that no treatment is their option. Ask yourself if you life consists of going to dialysis for 4 hrs 3x a day and then spending the rest of your time in bed, is a quality of life you would want for yourself, or do you want the PT to stay alive just for your own selfish reasons.

Our society thinks death is bad, when death is just as much a part of the life cycle as birth. Keeping someone alive is not always about love, or caring, Love means wanting the best for someone, even if it does not include you.

Well said.

I thought these units were all out patient units, no beds. Maybe you can try bringing pillows or an eggcrate for your father to sit on.

There has to be more to this story. Is insurance involved? What else is going on to make cause this situation?
