Charter rolled out a new email format several weeks ago. Normally I'm all for change if there are obvious improvements, but this looks as if Charter dropped back 10 and punted.

The page is cumbersome with intrusive and extraneous information. The fonts are archaic. And when you open a message it appears with a "ghost" version behind which renders both incomprehensible. Because Charter recognized the obvious problems, they continued to offer the "class" version of the email through another portal, though over the last month you can only read but not respond to mail through this format.

And we've been told that it will be shut off on March 31, forcing you to use the new format. Tried to ask for assistance through the customer service "chat," but they can only respond with the company prepared text. "We're sorry for the incovenience ... we understand your frustration ...

charter is attempting to fix the problems ... you can use the classic ... " Don't understand why a company of such scope and influence would launch an important tool when the problems were evident from the start. Really rather sophomoric and pedestrian.

I would change, but so much of what I have and do is linked to this email address. I fear losing contact with key parts of my life.

Location: Greenville, South Carolina

I also hate the email format from Charter, it isn't easy to use and hard on the eyes, looks like everything is running together, wish they would bring back the classic version. I came across the classic version on www.mail.twc.com boy what a difference, much easier to use.

How do we voice our ideas back to them? I haven't tried responding to any emails yet, so don't know if it still works the way it used to.

Glad to know there are others out there who don't like the new format. Wish there was something we could do.

Charter's email program has been unreliable and inefficient for some time now. It seems the have constant problems and appear to be just "patching" a bad program in the hopes of making the thing work.

You can sometimes get your email by going to "charter.net/email" instead of thru the regular way. I expect Charter is trying to save money by hiring foreign-born, half-trained programmers. A word to the wise: make sure you have two or even three or more valid email address on other email services, eg., Yahoo, Google, Mail.com, GMX.com and many others.

Sign up for more free email services and even give people/companies who need to know your email address your alternate email address. This is in case of, or when Charter's email becomes totally unreliable, not just haphazardly bad.

I agree 100%, Charter email sucks!!!! and they only allow IMAP, and are not compatible with so many other email servers, I need to keep my current email for business reasons.

Having similar problems with Charter. I cant scroll down to see the full message. Even in "full screen" I can only scroll within the message which is poor.

I have the new charter e'mail program. They went from bad to worse.

It's been several months of complaints and not getting much better. Maybe they need to look at an outside contractor.

Amen to all that.

I am so glad to see that other people do not like the new charter email as much as me. I thought I was alone.

I have made another email instead and all I do is delete everything in the charter email.

But, that takes hours!

This new Charter.net email is THE WORST! How can a technology company create such a slow, cumbersome and antiquated system?'

The new email format has made me wonder if there was anyone with any intelligence who designed it. I am so frustrated.

It is slow, slow, slow, and slower.

It is cumbersome and I would like to know why the company thought they were making an improvement. It is beyond my comprehension, that anyone would think this is a better product.

I have had nothing but complaints with new charter e'mail. You would think a company like charter would have it right.

They need to get a 3rd party on it that knows what there doing.

The only reason I haven't gone to another provider is it's going to be days to transfer all data. SO SAD CHARTER

I hate this new format. Might have everything forwarded to a different email account.

If they don't fix it soon, I'm done with charter. Even the home page is ***.

Guest

My wife absolutely hates the new format.

So much so - she built a Gmail account, and then set up her Charter Email, to forward everything to Gmail.

Excellent summary. Spot on.

I am having problem retrieving message from my e-mail account with "Charter.net" but all I get is "Problems fetching message headers" error.

I don't know how I ended up on this Pissed customer website but their website is un-helpful either.

Is there a way for you to get this to Charter.net engineers so as for them to fix this problem.

Thanks,

M.A

FIREFOX BROWSER FIXED THE BACKSPACING PROBLEM.

Dump Charter, and get yourself a real e-mail (anything else).

Normally I use Mozilla and have been bothered with the "ghost" email display. With Internet Explorer I don't have the ghosts.

I still prefer Mozilla for browsing but will now use Explorer for Charter Email.

Charter has ONLY one thing going for them and that is the internet speed. THEIR EMAIL SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY INADEQUATE FOR BUSINESS. THEIR IT SUPPORT IS COMPLETELY INADEQUATE PINNED TO THE FLOOR TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY HELP TO ITS CUSTOMERS DUE TO THE LIMITATIONS OF COMPATIBLE EMAIL SERVICE CONNECTIONS WITH WINDOWS AND MACINTOSH.

IF YOU WANT TO PLAY GAMES AND WASTE YOUR LIFE WATCHING TV. THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE.

IF YOU NEED THIS FOR BUSINESS, LOOK ELSEWHERE. CHARTER DOES NOT PROVIDE GOOD BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS.

That happens to me and no doubt others, especially when trying to send something defiant of political correctness. It's virtually certain Charter censors mail on this specific basis. If not controversial, an apolitical email will sometimes send if you first save it as a draft. This may require a few seconds or a few weeks in that folder. Failing that, try sending to a third party, maybe disguising vowels as asterisks, and ask them to forward to your recipient.

Now that you mention this, I must say it happens to me much less frequently than before the big Webmail change.

To Charter's credit, an item just appeared among its homepage news features that was 100% constructive and no-nonsense -- "7 financial mistakes made by The Beatles". Anybody see it? It took up a subject of general interest, Beatle history, and used it to teach a series of economic lessons anybody old enough to read it could benefit from.

It was produced by bankrate.com, not Charter, but I'm still picking myself up from the floor that Charter featured something so totally opposite from their usual sheer decadence.

I can't send a simple email, charter says it's SPAM. I can't find a email contact on their website like I used to.

the spam notice gives a URL that sends me to the front page.

I'm not going to spend time on the phone trying to explain how my one sentence email is being blocked. :(
