How did he break the contract when he took the car off the trailer to keep it from burning up and his wife put their luggage, after it was off the trailer, in the car to drive to the hotel? .

You must work for Budget. I guess we will wait and see what the Florida State Attorney and JAG Officer have to say. And by the way, the roadside service guy NEVER saw the car on the trailer, just parked at the hotel with the "items" luggage.

Were they supposed to stay at a hotel without their luggage? That does not make any sense.

I moved to Vegas two weeks ago using Budget Truck Rental service out of Port Saint Lucie, FL. My story has to do with Budget violating regulations, endangering lives and threatening if I pursue any compensation.

On July 3rd I rented a 24 ft.

moving truck and a trailer to tow my 2006 Mustang. My nephew and his wife drove the truck across country and I flew into Las Vegas. My nephew and his wife left Florida on July 4th. When I landed in Vegas I had a text message from my niece telling me the trailer towing my car had caught on fire and there was not a fire extinguisher in the truck.

The kids were an hour outside Hattiesburg, Mississippi approximately 1:30 am on a desolate road that Mississippi police did not monitor. A trucker noticed the fire and thank goodness he had a fire extinguisher. I am not talking about small flames; even the fire extinguisher was not capable of putting the fire out, so the trucker used his water and blankets to extinguish the fire. My nephew was trying to get my car off the trailer because the flames were reaching it and in the process my car received damage.

When my nephew call Budget roadside service they said it would be about three hours before they could get to them and told my niece to go to the nearest town and get a motel which was about an hour away, and they would reimburse them for the motel. The problem with this was there was less than a quarter of a tank of gas in my car. Now, keep in mind my nephew was left alone on a dark isolated road with no flares or any protection. Roadside service showed up and brought the wrong size trailer.

My nephew met up with his wife at the motel. The next morning roadside service showed up with the trailer. My nephew and his wife put their suitcases, pillows and blankets in my car after they checked out of the motel and my car was parked beside the trailer. My nephew hooked everything up, took out their suitcases and left the pillows and blanket in the backseat of my car and continued on the trip.

That evening the dash lights on the truck kept going out and my niece called roadside service and they said they would not be able to get to them until the next day and for them get motel and they, the company would reimburse them for the gas and the motel. I also called roadside service because once again my nephew and niece were stranded along side the road and I am very concerned about their safety. Roadside service told me what they had told the kids. The next morning roadside service showed up and said the fuse was loose.

They tighten the fuse and the kids were on there way again. The next night the dash lights went out again. My nephew pulled over, turned the truck off, waited a few minutes and started the truck back up, the lights came on, they drove a few miles and the dash lights went out again. In the meantime my niece had contacted roadside service again and they once again said it would be the next day before anyone could fix the truck and for them to get a motel.

So, they pull over waited started the truck, lights came on drove a few miles and continued this until they found a motel. I once again called roadside service and they at that time informed me I was not on the contract and they would not talk to me about this. I am floored at this point because I could not understand why I was not on the contract since I was the one who rented the truck and my nephew was only the driver. Tiffany told me as a courtesy she could tell me the kids were safe and that they did not have an electrician on call so that was why the truck could not be fixed until the next morning.

My niece canceled the call because they would be arriving in Vegas the next day and did not need dash lights. Just outside Boulder City my nephew noticed the truck was not driving right, pulled over and noticed the tires on the trailer had come completely off the rims and they called roadside service again and was told it would be three hours before they could come. At this point, my nephew took my car off the trailer again, put their suitcases and personal belongings in the car and she drove into Vegas, while my nephew waited fours hours in the desert with no water for Budget Roadside service to show up. By this time, I am beyond stress and called Budget Roadside service and once again I was told they would not talk to me.

Roadside service showed up, took the trailer and my nephew drove into Vegas. When I went to return the truck Al at Budget told my nephew and me three times the truck I had rented should have never been rented because it needed to serviced before it left Florida. My nephew called Budget and told them I was the one who rented the truck and they needed to talk to me. After I returned the truck I called Budget and they told me they would call me back in two days about compensation.

The third day I called them and I was informed by Irene that the โ€œTopโ€ guy at Budget had looked into this and that because I had โ€œitemsโ€ in the car that my nephew would be getting a bill for the trailers and that there would not be any compensation because he was in violation of the contract. When I asked what the items were, I was told โ€œI can only read the email from the โ€œTopโ€ guy.โ€ Roadside service NEVER saw the car on the trailer.

So now Budget is going to sue my nephew for the trailer and not reimburse me for all extra expenses.

Monetary Loss: $2500.

Location: Las Vegas, Nevada

Budget is correct, your nephew violated the contract. He is responsible.

As far as roadside service, 3 hrs is the standard. All roadside service is contracted out and not always available at 3am. Your nephew should have planned better.

Even truckers have to wait hours for service when they break down on the road. *** POOR PLANNING on your part!
