4 months past the 2 year warranty, trans is acting up: Won't stop unless you apply the brake, tractor just keeps going. After applying brake, does disengage but hard to re-engage, "clunks" into drive mode.

Contacted Ariens customer service with this issue for help and was told it was out of warranty, take it to your local dealer. Purchased at Home Depot, unfortunately, my closest dealer is about 30 miles away.

Home Depot has apparently also given up on Ariens, don't seem to sell them anymore. Hoping that someone has had a similar problem and a has an easy fix?

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Ariens Pros: Price.

Ariens Cons: Customer service.

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

We bought ours in July 2014, had regular maintenance performed before each cutting season - (oil, sharpened blades) and this year our guy tells us the transmission is leaking - tried to contact customer service that basically said we are S#!@ out of luck because the warrant has expired. We had my husband's grandfather's riding mower before this one and it last a heck of a lot longer that this piece of crap lasted - we even had read many reviews before we purchased this tractor and this one had some of the best reviews. We are extremely disappointed b/c it will cost $1200 to fix the transmission when the tractor cost us $1400 - we will not be getting this fixed, or will we ever buy from Ariens again - so much for their motto "For over 80 years, the Ariens family name has been found on only dependable, durable, finely crafted machines. Because putting our name on something means everything."

Bought mine from Home Depot in August of 2014. Made it through 2015 but trans was already making ominous sounds in reverse by mid-season.

Got to 2016 - didn't want to go in reverse without extra force. Then it started running as soon as would release the brake - couldn't find neutral with either pedal. Had new transmission installed under warranty in 2016 at about 33 hours. Beginning of this season - same symptoms reappear.

Continued to use it - forced to use the brake to stop it and massaging the drive pedals to coax it to change directions. As of 6/1/2017, the new trans is stuck permanently in reverse. Can't even use bypass lever to move the mower now. Had to put rear wheels on a dolly just to move the piece of junk back into my shop.

Will NEVER buy another Ariens, or any mower with a plastic transmission.

I think the durability testing results are meaningless on those things. I now own a junk lawnmower with 57 hours of total run time.

I had the same problem, mower tried to climb a fence before I got it stopped! I took the battery and batt.

Box out, and removed the pulley Assy.

Then blew out the hidden linkage area, then sprayed wd40 into the area. Not sure what the exact problem was( trash in linkage area?) but after reassembly, works fine!
