Like everyone else, I didn't renew the yearly natural gas contract and figured out a year and half later that they were charging me more than double the market gas rates.

I asked for a refund but was quickly refused

I tried to cancel and got the runaround that it would take up to 2 billing cycles to cancel. At t his point I was livid that I had to continue with this POS of a company.

Solution: Call your electric or gas company. Tell them that you would like to cancel that account immediately and to open a new account with a different account number using only their service. This shuts down the Ambit energy account the following day!

Reason of review: charged me double the market rate.

Monetary Loss: $1200.

Preferred solution: Full refund.

Location: Naperville, Illinois

ambit energy is definitely a scam service. say whatever you want to say about the customers needing to renew but it's clear that their business model is to acquire a customer and then for "some" reason or another, fail to renew and mark up those rates until the customer figures it out and cancels.

I called pseg (in nJ) and they told me that this method doesn't work for them. the account number can change but as long as ambit has your pod number which I guess is the number related to your meter, it won't matter. they'll still have pseg bill you their ambit-rageous rates.

however, you can call pseg directly and have them send in a cancellation notice. it can take 1-2 billing cycles depending on when you do it.

if your plan runs out and you do not renew it. your service reverts back to the incumbent provider.

so you were being charged by ambit.

you were being charged by your old company's rates. which were much higher then what you had with ambit.

This is not true. When I didn't renew my first year, the charges were not reverted back to the incumbent provider, trust me, the difference of Ambit to my regular electric bill is less than $10 a year and my bill for the month was more than triple and they would do nothing about it, except keep the money they stole from me.

It's funny to read what Skippy wrote. I am trying to cancel my Ambit account, after receiving renewal letter.

And guess what. Nobody picks up the phone, no matter how long I am holding! So, how do I cancel it?

I guess the only way is just was suggested close and open a new account. Pathetic.

You are the only one to blame for this situation. You were told when you signed up for your rate plan when you would need to renew it. I am sure they sent you reminders both in the mail and email too.

If you failed to renew your plan it is your own fault. Take responsibility for yourself and the situation, suck it up and renew your plan... I HATE when irresponsible "adults" don't take care of business and then place the blame elsewhere. If you had done what you should have done as a responsible adult (and were reminded to do) you would have renewed your plan and all would be good.

You did not, so ended up in the situation you were in. Place blame where blame is due. It's not Ambit who is to blame, it is yourself.

Learn from it, and in the future renew your plan when you supposed to. If you don't you only have yourself to blame.

When I signed up there was no need to resign every year. In fact I can send you a copy of their info from 2009 showing this to be a fact.

This all changed at some point in 2013, when Ambit supposedly sent out letters explaining this.

I have been trying to find a copy of this mystical letter on the Internet with no success. Do you have a copy Skippy?

Hey there skippy by any chance are you an ambit energy consultant?

skippy must be a Ambit "consultant" and has lost some of his clients! But he is right, we, as customers are RESPONSIBLE for our business outcomes.

I changed my plan, it was confirmed by Ambit and they STILL MANAGE TO CHARGE ME 3X WHAT MY NEIGHBOR IS PAYING. Paperwork now going to NY Attorney General Office--AGAIN!!

Dude, you're a jack *** for stating this about people. NOT informing customers they will be charged multiple times the bill if they don't renew on time is not informing the customer with the intention of milking more money out of people.

People like you are programmed by the system that all is fair in business when you partially inform customers knowing this partial information will and does lead to hidden contract agreements that allow them to double and triple you're bill.

Bull ***.

I used to sell Ambit and am embarrassed I ever got affiliated with them....

What a scam they turned out to be!!!!!!'m

You don't need to "sell" ambit. You represented a top-notch and award winning company.

The scam is when the consultant doesn't take care of their clients and send yearly reminders to them to renew their guaranteed 3% savings rate on gas and electric. It's not hard and only takes less than 5 minutes to renew both accounts online.

Slacking off is the only part of the business that is embarrassing.

I agree. If an energy consultant fails to take care of their customers by neglecting to notify them that their term is up, and customers don't pay attention, then these rate increases may happen.

The problem is in how Ambit consultants are encouraged to get more and more consultants in order to make more in residuals/ bonuses, etc. This is unsustainable in the long run if a high percentage of customers are also consultants and only top rung consultants will make a lot of money.

With little oversight in how consultants are approaching customers, it can ultimately lead to consultants who may not pay attention to their clients, their teams clients, or the clients down the line. Im sure there are many upstanding, honest and good consultants involved with ambit, but the weak links are the ones that break the chain.
