Alliance for Affordable Services was founded in 1981. It is a national organization that uses group buying power for providing access to personal, professional and health care benefits and services. The organization has approximately 80,000 members nationwide. Alliance for Affordable Services supports a Legislative Advocacy Program in order to inform its members, promote legislation supporting small businesses and the self-employed, as well as to provide access to tools which are allowing members to contact their legislators and voice their opinions. It periodically hosts advocacy events around the country utilizing elected officials as guest speakers. That is done to give members and other small business owners from the local areas an opportunity for face-to-face dialogue on issues which are under debate in Congress. Alliance offers an annual scholarship program that has awarded over 2.2 million in scholarships. Thus it has helped more than 1,500 high school graduates and college students pursue undergraduate degrees since the scholarship programs inception in 1996.
