Angry Nurses Billboards
Community Hospital in Anderson, Indiana (a member of the Community Health Network)has a billboard campaign throughout the city against sexual abuse. Obviously, a good thing.
However, the image has two angry aggressively postured RNs with arms crossed glaring across the city. Words that come to mind are mean, aggressive, rude, vigilante, unprofessional, and ignorant. Sorry Community Hospital, but keep these sociopaths away from me.
Perhaps an empathetic approach is more suitable for stewards like health professionals. I believe our city demands better healthcare and this approach sends a contorted message about this city, its residents, its healthcare, and leaves me thinking, "how unprofessional?"

On behalf of Community Hospital Anderson, I would like to apologize if our billboard appeared too harsh or made you feel uncomfortable. That was certainly not our intent. Our goal for these billboards was to raise awareness for sexual abuse, to encourage victims to report what has happened to them, and to let people know that Community Anderson has a strong program in place to care and fight for these patients. Our staff will stand up for those patients who can’t stand up for themselves.
While both of the pictured nurses show compassion and genuine care for their patients, they have no tolerance for sexual abuse and work tirelessly to end it. They routinely work with the police and prosecutor’s office and testify in court, in their efforts to bring perpetrators to justice, thus preventing them from harming anyone else and helping to achieve closure for patients. That is what we were trying to capture with our billboard.
