Total rip-offs!

We have a Toyota that fell into one of the recent recall categories. We always maintain our vehicles.

When we were initially contacted, we tried to make an appointment, but were told that the part was not in stock - call back in a few weeks. That happened a couple of times, so we put it on the back burner for the time being. We had the car winterized (fluids topped off, belts tightened, overal inspection), along with an oil change. About a week later, the check engine light went on.

Our mechanic put it on the computer, and said (he knows the car well - he is the only person that works on it) that he was getting a transmission code, & it may be a glitch. He turned it off & said to call if it comes back on. It came back on (he didn't know we had not had the recalled part replaced). He suggested changing the transmission fluid.

It needed it, anyway, so, okay. He changed it. Then the light came back on a few days later. We asked him about the recall, and he said "Oh, well, that's probably your problem!

Take it to a dealer & have them fix it!". We made an appointment with Colonial Toyota & brought the car in. They said they would inspect it & check the defective part. We told them we absolutely were not interested in their inspection, and they ignored us.

They were very rude!! We waited about 1 1/2 hours, & they came out & said the part was defective, but that we also really needed an oil change, transmission fluid changed, & our belts tightened. REALLY?! We JUST had all of that done!

(Our mechanic is a trusted friend, neighbor, and professional auto mechanic). Then the "salesperson" got very angry when we called him on it. Oh, and we heard other workers there give the same spiel to other customers waiting to have thier cars serviced.

They are rude & total rip-offs! Stay away, if you can!
