Cohens Fashion Optical - Prescription failure of company
My doctor at cohens gave the wrong information on my prescription. He was supposed to write the name brand and refuses to answer the faxes sent by eyeconic. I was only given two pairs of daily contacts and now they wont verify my prescription I paid for

Please please stay away from this place unless you're looking for a place who doesn't care about their customers. My husband and I got glasses from them about a year ago, the experience wasn't too great but we wanted to give them another chance. My husband needed new sunglasses with prescription called yesterday to update appointment schedule and that person "forgot" to update it, we had proof on our phone the time we had called. We show up at our scheduled time after driving over 40 minutes in rush hour traffic with two small children the doctor had left a minute ago according to the staff. They called her to come back and she refused. This is unacceptable, these people don't care Please please stay way from this place unless you're looking for a place who doesn't care about their customers.

I would never recommend Cohen Optical

Despite clear instructions, they did my eye glasses wrong, completely different that what I requested. Even their technician said this was done wrong and the manager should refund the money, but they refused to do so. On top of everything, they discharged my old lenses. I was in the store for over 5 hours trying to solve this issue but all they tried to offer was store credit I can't use because I live abroad and after all this I wouldn't go back again. The manager treated me very poorly. A terrible unprofessional experience, I would never use their services again or recommend to anyone.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I went there with my mom with Groupon voucher. As soon as they heard voucher they changed the prices they said first. Even with the voucher they changed conditions very quick, started saying second single vision lens would also cost 100$ extras. Minutes later I said I do not want to get anything and they said 300$ is processed and won’t be returned back even though I was to get lenses 5 days later On top of it, attitude of the staff was ridiculous. Was like, “listen this is America and you’re in Manhattan and you don’t get anything for free it is expensive” WTF not just their further words were rude it was very racist too I would strongly suggest to NEVER vistit this store ever again

I Won judgement $938 in 2/2014. Cohen paid $520 & fails to pay the rest. Now is 6/11/2018

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
About four and a half years ago, November 2013, I did business with Cohen's Fashion Optical (West 114th street and Broadway, in Manhattan, New York) to have lenses put on my new, rimless, Christian Dior eyeglasses frames. The Christian Dior frame costed me about $450 each. They did a very bad job, plus losing both demo lenses of the Christian Dior frame, rendering the frame to be useless. After spending a lot of time and effort with Cohen's and many unsatisfactory responses from the store, I eventually had to sue them at the small claims court in Harlem. In February 2014, the Court granted me the judgement in my favor of $938. Cohen's Fashion Optical only paid $520 and failed to pay me the rest, $418. I contacted this Cohen's store that told me to contact their headquarters’ customer service and provided me with the phone number. Numerous times, I called but that phone only had an answering machine hooked up. Despite leaving them numerous messages and time spent, Cohen's never returned my calls nor paid me the remaining balance of the Court judgement. The Court suggested me contacting New York Marshal's Office, which I hired to chase after Cohen's. The Marshal's Office chased after Cohen's numerous times but Cohen's continues failing to pay. The Marshal's office told me the next step they could do would be going to Cohen's store and took their goods. However, such service would cost me at least two thousand dollars. That does not seem like a good choice for me, so I declined. Spending my time and paying additional court fees, I returned to Harlem Court to proceed with additional procedures trying to collect this remaining balance. To this date, June 11, 2018, more than 4 years and 2 months after the court judgement, Cohen's Fashion Optical still fails to pay me the remaining balance of the judgement amount. If a company does not even follow the Court’s order, will you want to do business with such company? I definitely will not. Based on principle, I definitely will continue with additional court procedures to chase after the remaining balance Cohen’s owned me.

Cohens Fashion Optical - Fraudulent Refund Policy and No Prescription AGAIN

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Cohens Fashion Optical - Fraudulent Refund Policy and No Prescription AGAIN

WARNINGS & ILLEGAL PRACTICES! 1.

All of Cohen's Fashion Optical stores DO NOT PROVIDE REFUNDS. Once you provide them w/ payment, you cannot get your money back. 2. This particular store DOES NOT GIVE PRESCRIPTIONS (unless you ask them for it) and that is ILLEGAL.

I felt it was important to provide you with these 2 warnings before I upload docs of the store's illegal practices as of 3/22/17. I hope this review will 1) prevent future customers from falling victim to overpriced products & unprofessional customer service 2) will force the store to always DISCLOSE everything that I am about to tell you. First of all, I have been going to Cohen's Fashion Optical on W. 96th & Bway for a couple of years now since I live very close to one and up until this point, I've never had an issue with the brand.

When I went to the 42nd store, I asked for an eye exam for my contacts to which they gave me my examination and the store manager sold me contacts that had to be ordered and shipped to the store. My insurance benefits allow me $25 for 4 boxes of 30 lenses + $10 copay for my exam for a total of $35. This is what I've always paid for at the West 96th store. Initially, I thought the store manager was selling me "selection contacts" that would allow me to continue to take advantage of $25 for 4 boxes.

She told me further that if I bought a year's worth of contacts, I would get a $120 rebate so I trusted her to purchase a year's worth. I left the store and not even a minute later I realized I forgot to ask for my prescription so I went right back in and asked for it. The store manager gave that to me. I realized later after looking back on last year's insurance claims from the other store, that she had sold me on "non selection contacts" (the only diff.

is 90 lenses vs 30 lenses per box) which took away my insurance benefits of 4 boxes AND it forced me to pay $90 for a contact evaluation fee. At first, I thought it was an innocent mistake so I went back to the store to have this corrected before they filed a claim with my insurance. The store manager did not want to work with me on this issue and told me about their "NO REFUND POLICY" which was the FIRST TIME I had heard of this. There were no visible signs of the policy (apparently hidden behind some boxes - see attached photo).

When I realized this, I told her that I would not be picking up these contacts when they arrive, and will dispute this with my credit card company, and she responded that I would lose the dispute as they will argue that they attempted delivery (btw this is attempted delivery to their own store). I emailed their customer service liaison who turned out to not be very helpful where I provided a photo of the hidden refund policy. NYS law requires that all retail establishments post refund policies. It is also part of the law to make sure it is clearly visible to the buyer from the cash register.

(see link below & photo for reference). I told the liaison that the store was in violation of the law, and as such, the store is liable to provide the customer with a refund within 30 days. https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/dca/downloads/pdf/about/Disclosures.pdf (UPDATE 3/23/17 - I walked by the store today and saw those boxes removed so it's clear Corporate spoke with her) To my dismay, I also realized afterwards that the store manager gave me a prescription that was not for contacts but for glasses! Another review said that the store withholds your prescription from you but I didn't think that the store would give me the wrong prescription AFTER I had asked for it.

This is also ILLEGAL per the 2nd link below, and it makes it difficult for customers to shop around to other providers in the future w/o a prescription. THEY SHOULD ALWAYS GIVE YOU YOUR PRESCRIPTION even if you do not ask for it! Doublecheck all info is on the Rx too. https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0116-prescription-glasses-and-contact-lenses#rights The end result was no refund even after I supported my claims: lack of visible signage, wrong prescription, unprofessional customer service.

I still do not have an RX for my exam and once Cohen's file my claim, I will not be able to get a prescription without paying out of pocket. Instead Maria offered no apology but offered to give 3 mo. of contacts at no additional cost and Corporate thought $50 in Cohen's cash would fix the issue. That alone was insulting.

As such, besides providing all of my emails and photos to my credit card company, I have filed a complaint to NYC.gov, FTC, and Attorney General to look into the illegal practices of this store. This is also why I felt the need to write a detailed review on yelp and provide photos to warn others. (I have redacted my name and liaison's to protect her and to make sure my photos stay up) Do not be surprised if you see this review on other complaint boards.

Below are some of the links where I put in an official complaint for an investigation. http://www1.nyc.gov/site/dca/consumers/file-complaint.page https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#&panel1-1 https://www.bbb.org

Please do not go here unless you have time to waste. They show a lack of empathy and prey on customers.

Knowing how important it is for people to have eyeglasses. Do not buy any glasses here. They are not reasonable and will lie about what your insurance covers.

They are very thirsty for a sale. If I am going to spend more than 400 dollars on glasses, I better have 2 pairs and they come with remote control!

Cohen is very overpriced I went in 10 mins after I realized that I can get cheaper glasses elsewhere only to be told that they cannot cancel my glasses.I will not be going there anymore.OVERPPRICE

They just over charged me for my glasses, now I'm waiting for someone to call me back

Very helpful for my current case.

Guest

Thank you. l wish i had read your post sooner.

My case is somewhat similar. I paid over $500 for a new pair of bifocal glasses at 3 pm on a Tuesday at a Cohen's store, because l thought l had lost my glasses. I was told it would take 10 to 14 business days to make the glasses. I found my glasses the next day and returned to the store on Wednesday at 1 pm to cancel my order.

Cohen's said it was too late to cancel the order. That is hard to understand. They take your money up front and then take nearly 3 weeks to deliver the product.

This is not fair. You should be able to cancel if its within 24 hours of placing an order.

Guest

Who could read the stores refund policy the sign look very hard to read and if your eyesight is poor in a optical store they could take advantage of the customer.

Guest

Thank you, i will not be using this company. Too many bad reviews! I'm so sorry for your experience.
