This review is 5 years in the making. We purchased a new construction spec home from Coastline Development almost exactly 5 years ago.
We were so ready to be done with the construction process and move in, that we allowed him to skip out on a punch list consisting of touch of painting and finishing work. We allowed him to walk away from the project even though some of the work was shoddy. For example, all of the exterior doors were installed when the paint was still wet, so all of the paint on our door jams is chipped. However, what we havent been able to overcome, is a faulty AC unit that hasnt worked properly since pretty much the day we moved in.
Every single year, the AC has completely stopped working. It then takes weeks to get the numerous leaks and duct work fixed. Meanwhile, we are completely without AC. Nobody can figure out exactly what the problem is.
The only conclusion is that the AC system and work was done poorly from the beginning. We have asked very little of this company. All weve asked for is a working AC unit, but now he wont even return phone calls. The problem weve had with this AC unit is the equivalent of a lemon in the car buying business.
I cant tell you what a nightmare this has been. We built a custom home with another builder before purchasing this home from Coastline and the difference in quality is night and day.
We are now forced to get an attorney just to force this builder to stand behind his work. I cant tell you how much we regret purchasing this multi-million dollar home from Coastline.

Please look for real information on reliable sources or call me direct. Rogue Contractor
- - Rick rarely onsite; crew spoke little English.
- - Delays were caused by missing materials and cash payroll; an EDD audit occurred.
We hired Rick Simmons dba Coastline Construction cslb lic. 991176 for remodeling our kitchen and baths. We were very unhappy with their work for the following reasons:
1. Supervision: Rick rarely was onsite to manage & direct hisemployees, many of whom spoke little or no English.
2. Disorganized: Many delays due to lack of necessarymaterials. Crew members consistently stopping work tomake Home Depot runs. We, on occasion, picked upmaterials too to keep the work progressing!
3. Worker Treatment: He pays his workers cash rather thanW2 payroll! This is illegal & puts the customer at risk if his workers incur job site injuries without being coveredunder Worker Compensation which directly correlates with W2 payroll records! We had enough already! Towards project final, we notified Ca EDD regarding Mr Simmonsillegal cash payroll practices! We agreed to assist EDD with a "job site Sting" to catch his cash crews. EDD proceeded with a full blown audit!

WE HIRED THIS CONTRACTOR FROM A WEB BASED REFERRAL SERVICE. THEY WERE HIGHER IN PRICE THAN TWO OTHER QUOTES BUT WE CHOSE THEM BECAUSE THE OWNER SOLD US ON QUALITY AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL.
BOY, WERE WE IN FOR AN UNPLEASANT SURPRISE! ABOUT MIDWAY THROUGH, DELAYS STARTED AND THEY SOMETIMES WOULDN'T SHOW FOR DAYS. THE OWNER WAS ALWAYS ONSITE WHENEVER IT WAS DRAW PAYMENT TIME BUT WAS NEVER ONSITE TO SUPERVISE THE JOB.
ULTIMATELY, WE WERE UNHAPPY WITH FINAL OUTCOME AS THE QUALITY WAS CLEARLY FAR BELOW WHAT WE PAID AND WHAT WE EXPECTED. WE DEFINITELY WON'T HIRE OR RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE.

We hired him for a simple upper deck and bedroom alteration.
Total nightmare.....delays, lack of supervision of his apparent day laborer pick up team crews whom spoke little or no English. We were not happy with final outome.....never hiring him again nor recommending!

WE HIRED RICK SIMMONS, OWNER OF COASTLINE CONSTRUCTION TO REMODEL OUR HOUSE. MANY DELAYS OCCURRED IN NO SMALL TO HIS GROSS MISMANAGEMENT.
HE WAS NEVER AROUND, EXCEPT FOR COLLECTING DRAWS. HIS CREWS WORKED DILIGENTLY BUT STRUGGLED WITH DETAIL BEYOND THEIR TRAINING. WE OVER HEARD, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, SPEAKER PHONE ARGUMENTS HE AND HIS POOR WORKERS ENDURED WHILE BEING SCOLDED WHILE HE WAS OFF SITE. HE WAS JUST TOTALLY NEVER ONSITE.
ULTIMATELY, WE FIRED HIM AND HIRED ANOTHER CONTRACTOR.
