Refund Scam

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Coast Dental is the most unprofessional and incompetent company I've ever had to deal with. I'm still trying to resolve an incomplete issue that's been dragged out for over 6 months.

I went in for an ortho consult during the summer of 2017, and I was initially told by their offices that I did not have ortho coverage from my insurance. I assured them that I did and was told that they would check for me and would apply the coverage to my balance. Some time went by and I didn't hear back from Coast Dental. I called my insurance company and confirmed that I did have coverage, so I then had to call Coast Dental and have them fix my balance.

I was quoted different amounts of coverage by Coast Dental and couldn't get a consecutive number. Later, I'm told that I have to come in for another appointment to redo some of the molds that were either done incorrectly, incompletely, or "possibly melted on their way there." I became more and more uncomfortable doing business with them as my trust declined after every encounter, so I inquired if it was too late to cancel the treatment and receive a full refund. The next time I went into the office, I met a new manager who assured me that she was able to reverse everything, having the full payment refunded to me as if the order was completely cancelled, because she agreed that there was too much inconsistency and I shouldn't have to deal with that. I happily thank her and the office thinking that was the end of that.

To my dismay, none of this happened. My balance on CareCredit to finance the braces never cleared, let alone didn't reflect the insurance coverage which I thought was resolved from the beggining. After receiving an email about a CareCredit late payment a few weeks later, I called Coast Dental and spoke to another new manager (3 different managers at this point) about the issue. We call back and forth as I wait for them to get in contact with corporate, and in the midst of this I also deal with a very rude associate.

I'm also given a corporate email address to send a message about my issue which is never answered. Then it's November, and my insurance coverage is reflected on my CareCredit balance. This infuriated me since it further proved that no steps were made to cancel my order. I'm finally told by this 3rd manager that I was subject to paying for the services rendered to make the molds even though I declined to have the services complete.

This was never explained before that point nor did it follow what the 2nd manager assured me of (which was a complete refund!). The 3rd manager then refers me to their corporate patient relations number. I've called them a record of over 12 times, leaving several voicemail messages. They've followed up 2 times with voicemails or never are available to answer the phones.

If I knew that I had to pay for lab fees after declining services, then I would have made a completely different choice and simply continued and finished the ortho treatment instead. How dare a company tell me inconsistent information, almost never follow up, do not do what they say, and allow so many problems fall through the cracks simply because I spoke a manage who no longer works there.

Also, if I only owed fees after declining services, why is it the same price as if I were to purchase the ortho treatment in full? I highly encourage anyone to avoid this company.

Staff at Coast come and go like flies on a fresh dog turd. I sure wouldn't let anyone in that goofy organization start braces on me.

There is one place worse you could have gone for treatment- A$pen Dental.

Kick the corporate clinic habit and go to a private dentist with good reviews from people in your community that you have actually talked to. Don't select them from insurance lists or online reviews that are often doctored.

Customer service / appointments

Suntree branch will make an appointment, then not tell you when the Dentist or hygienist is out. They make you reschedule not caring that you have taken time off. Part 2, will schedule an appointment and keep you sitting in reception for over 30 minutes past your appointment without acknowledgement.

Unethical Business Practices

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Coast Dental is a scam. After my last visit I realized it is all about the money. If they tell you that you need work above and beyond your insurance, but you cannot afford it.. They will refuse to do any basic preventive that your insurance will cover and then kick you out of their office. Let me explain a little better. I was told that I needed a deep cleaning in a part of my mouth. Not my whole mouth. My insurance will only cover a standard cleaning. I called and explained this to the appointment setter. We scheduled a standard cleaning appointment. I arrived and was brought back to the chair. The cleaning technician had a piece of paper with description of work that needs to be done totaling $285. I explained that is a mistake. I am here for a routine cleaning that my insurance will pay for... The technician said, once you need a deep cleaning we can’t give you a regular cleaning. I asked why she couldn’t do a normal cleaning for preventative care she said that was their company policy. When I asked if I need to find a different dentist, she walked me to the front and had me sign a release form with a generic saying “future health care provider”. I was shocked that this was happening. Again my entire mouth didn’t need this work done. Meanwhile I am way overdue on a cleaning and I am now having difficulty finding another dental office that will except me with their records. My insurance will not pay for another comrhensive exam, and other dental offices are refusing to except their medical findings... After doing some research this is a common practice for this Dental chain. They lure you in because they claim to except your insurance and then they will find anything they can and convince you to open a line of credit to pay for it. If you refuse and insist on only the basic treatments, they will refuse to provide that treatment and then kick you out of their practice. This is what I consider unethical business practices..

It doesn't matter if what your insurance covers. If you have periodontal pocketing in one part of your mouth, you need a scaling and not a standard cleaning.

After that the proper insurance code is periodontal maintenance, not simple cleaning. The question is whether you had gum pocketing or not.

It is common in these flim-flam chains to falsify pockets depths to justify root scalings.

Yep, you will have to pay for another comprehensive exam out of pocket at an honest dentist. You made a big mistake going to a corporate clip joint to start with.

Poor communication, unethical practice, poor customer service

My family went to Coast Dental because they are the only dental office on our dental plan. They took an hour and a half to do x-rays, then recommended a deep cleaning that would be almost $200, on $30 was covered by insurance. I told them we would like a regular cleaning that is covered by insurance and they said they could only do this deep cleaning because it was recommended by their dentist (must question whether these dentists are ethical). So, we are stuck with a dentist who will not clean our family's teeth unless we pay them an extra $150 bucks. We have all had regular cleanings every 6 months and no other dentist has ever mentioned that any of us needed a deep cleaning. My children have been going since they were 3 years old and are still teenagers. DO NOT use this practice!

Drop your worthless dental plan. Bank the premiums you were paying so you can pay an honest dentist out-of-pocket.You can't win when you are dealing with hustlers like the owners and managers of a chop shop chain like Coast.

Machele Imf

"Deep cleaning" is usually a scam---don't fall for it. If you are paying premiums for this dental plan, cancel out and save the money.

Then, find a dentist in private practice in your area and just pay out of pocket for the exams, etc. If your dental plan is included with your health insurance, just ignore the dental part of it and find that local dentist and pay out of pocket.

With regular checkups and routine cleaning twice a year you should have relatively few, if any large dental expenses. Stay away from dental mills.

So far ...so good

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I had several issues with my front teeth due to a car accident some years back and knew I'd need extensive work done. I went to Coast Dental in Morrow, Ga in Dec. 2017 and I had a pretty good experience. The Dentist spent time with me, examined my teeth, took exrays, explained everything to me clearly and was very pleasant. Tbe dental hygienist followed up with me to make sure I understood everything and answered all my questions. The fromt desk staff were great! At the end of Sec.2017, I had 3 extractions and bonding done to my top teeth. They made sure I wasbproperly numbed and as comfortable as possible during the procedures. Went home and about an hour later removed the guaze and there was no bleeding or discomfort. It has niw been about 2 weeks since my work has been done and I have healed up great! I still have a few things left to do but so far I have to give Coast Dental on Jonesboro Rd. Morrow, Ga and 5 star rating!!!

Good for you. If you like this dentist I would get his or her personal e-mail, because anyone decent does not work at this fleabag chain clinic for more than about 6 months. Contracts prevent them from telling patients which practice they moved to, but you could e-mail him or her later and ask.

Run fast!

Went in for a cleaning, Dentist said two crowns were leaking. I am a trusting person and believed this Dentist. Long story short, Dentist no longer with Coast Dental. Did two crowns, new Dentist would not put in as he said they would not hold. Did a flapper - basically a retainer with two false teeth. Now have a lisp and not wearing as people cannot understand me. Leaving me with two holes in my mouth behind my eye tooth. Now have to go to cosmetic Dentist to get this fixed. Most likely, I have to get dental implants which will cost me much more than I had planned on paying. The wait time for this office is terrible. Plan to wait 45 minutes to an hour before even seen.

Sleazy corporate joints like Coast and Aspen run through dentists every 6 months. You don't get any continuity of care in places like this.Guess what?

You may have to have a bone graft before you can have implants.

Expensive mistake going to a fleabag operation like Coast instead of a regular dentist. Now you know.

Unsatisfied Patient

I'm also experiencing terrible billing and refund practicing with the Douglasville, GA location. After receiving services, I was told by front desk.I have a co-pay for office visit. I replied for dental services my insurance plan pays 100% with no patient responsibility. She says that is something that you will need to handle with your insurance company but there is a fee for office visit that I must collect now. I paid the fee. I later called my insurance company and was confirmed there is no co-pay for office visits or patient responsibility for dental. The representative from my insurance company called to inform Coastal Dental of the benefits. A refund was requested. After months of going to Coastal Dental inquiring about my refund, I was told all they can do is put in the request and I would need to call the corporate office. I have called and left multiple message to almost all extension but no return call. It has been almost 3 months with no return call to discuss my refund. I will not return to any of their locations for services.

The question is, why you went to a dirtbag operation like this when there are plenty of good dentists in every nook and cranny of most states. I am sure Georgia is no exception.

Horrible Experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My husband and I went to Coast Dental for exam and cleaning. We were the only two people there, were there for 2 hours and 35 minutes and had many xrays and had to pay out of pocket for one of them.

Then the dentist told me I did not take care of my teeth. I told her that since I was a child, now 69, I have gone to dentists, and done everything for my teeth but just do not have good teeth....always something to be done. Then the hygienist came in, said we both needed deep cleaning for a nice, huge price not covered by insurance of course. She told me it would be painful, bloody, I would be swollen, etc.

etc. This was told to me who is quite anxious when going to dentists! How professional they both were. Then they were all talking, etc.

while my husband and I sat side by side in the chairs. So then I said we want regular cleanings and they said "no, you will have to make another appointment and have the deep cleaning!" So now we have appointments set up with a dentist that was referred to us. So I go to get all the x-rays from Coast, they said it would be $38 for me to take them but I could have another dentist request them, and that is what we have done. Time will tell if he gets them or not.

My mom always said "you get what you pay for" and she was so right. Never go to Coast or Aspen Dental, that is my advice.

FYI, it is quite cheap of them to charge you for x-ray duplicates to be sent elsewhere. All they have to do is bundle them in an e-mail and send it to the dentist.

Done in a jiffy at no cost.

Good you decided to leave that corporate scam shop.

There are plenty of private dentists that would love to have you in their practice.

Clinics owned by investors instead of dentists are never a good place for patients to go. Good staff members rarely work at these clinics for long, if at all.

Emergency visit canceled due to Dentist not showing up for work.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
New to the Venice area I had not yet set up a relationship with a dentist. I cracked a tooth and had an exposed nerve which was painful to say the least. I went in to Coast to see if I could get in and was told that an emergency visit usually took about 1 week to get in But I could get in in 2 days. I booked it as an 8:30 A.M. appointment. At 8:20 A.M. on the day of the appointment as I was parking my car in there lot I received a call saying the dentist called in and would not be there for the whole day. 11/30/2017. I asked about scheduling it for tomorrow and was told that it would be a week or so before I could schedule another "EMERGENCY" visit. Then the gal said if your in pain try and find some narcotics to get you by for a week or two. So I called another dentist in Venice, Gentle Dentist on South Venice Ave. They got me right in, fixed me up, gave me a huge discount off the normal price and I was out the door. COAST DENTAL SHOULD BE OUT OF BUSINESS......

Here is a hint: when you want professional care, look for a doc with his name as the business name, and not some corny trade name. And above all, avoid corporate chain clinics!

$2000 cleaning?! Are you kidding me?

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I am a Medicaid recipient and was told both times (on accident the second time due to a change in doctors) to pay them $2000 for a cleaning that is not covered. They handed me a 700$ bill for removing a tooth and adding bone which could have gotten me a referral to the oral surgeon that my insurance does accept. They told me fillings were not covered (but on my insurance it says restoration is covered) and when I told them it was they said that they wouldn't do anything until I have the cleaning. To willingly charge my insurance for no exam and simple x-rays all to walk me out before even discussing or choosing to send me with a referral is fraud. They are ripping Medicaid off and I will happily be reporting them.

No honest dentist takes Medicaid because it is impossible to turn a profit without committing billing fraud.

When you get freebies from the government don't expect the freebies to be worth a darn. Here is a news flash: the taxpayers who have to pay for your freebies have a hard enough time paying for their own dental care.

Well, most people would say Aspen Dental is the absolute worst. Perhaps Coast is a close second.

It's what you get when investors who are not dentists own dental clinics. The only thing they care about is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$s in the corporate bank account.

The office on Blanding has changed staff every time I have gone in. There must be a reason! My appointment was at 9:20 am and no explanation as to why I was waiting nearly an hour. Then the office person lied and said that my appointment had been 9:50 so I was not waiting that long. When I got home, I checked the email, and it WAS 9:20. This time after cleaning, the dentist did not check the hygenist's work; I came home and found a black area between the front teeth. I called them back to ask if the dentist should have checked.. NO! Also, when I had a cleaning last time in January the hygenist did not buff my teeth afterward. I thought maybe things have changed in dental practice so I didn't say anything. While the hygenist was cleaning my teeth, the office person came in and told her that they were trying to get her more appointments. I felt that was disrespectful to the hygenist to say that in front of a patient. I will write to their headquarters too and never go back there again!

Save the effort writing that letter to Headquarters. They don't care.

They got fresh suckers coming in the door.

Of course staff changes every time. No decent employees want to work in these crumby sweat shops for long.

Dentists are embarrassed to tell classmates they work at a cheesy clip joint like Coast.

You want decent dental care? Go to a regular dentist who owns his own practice.
