I live in a senior citizen building. I received a notice my rent is being increased from $1350 a month to $1471.50 a month.
That is a 9% increase. I thought Oakland was a rent control city and rent could be raised on e a year by only 3%? My address is 142* -***th Ave, Apt 654 Oakland, CA 94603.

They get paid to do as little as possible

If you wonder why there is such a negative attitude here, this most likely is a big part of the reason. Oakland claims they take care of their people.
That's NOT true. City workers do as they please - or don't work at all. Worse still, is the "boss" doesn't care!! I was going to go to the City Council, after reading how horrible they are, I'm having doubts.
Look them up on Yelp. It's VERY frustrating to have to put up with out of control lawlessness all the time. Cops spend most of their time on select high crime areas, the homeless harassing people, or chasing cell phone snatchers. Animal Control doesn't control dogs, meter readers don't ticket neighborhoods but maybe once a week, and street sweepers don't sweep.
I heard a lot of people at the city "know someone" who make things disappear. This IS a great place to be if you're a taker or a user, but NOT if you believe in justice.
With a Mayor who is more concerned about homeless, ex cons, and illegals, it's impossible to get anything done. We have ordinances, but nobody will enforce them.
I've tried for 2 years to get the city to stop neighbors dog from barking all night. Even have a nuisance abatement office who refuses to abate the nuisance.
Street sweepers who don't sweep, meter maids you'll never see. It's awful.
