The AmTrak Depot is both disgusting and unsanitary. The City and/or AmTrak need to maintain the brick walkways and routinely power wash. It looks like a high school quad.

AI Highlights
  • - Image matters for the town's appeal.
  • - AmTrak area should be kept clean.
  • - UTube broadcasts 24/7 in the area.
  • - Demerit for being a university community.

Image is everything. And for being such a quaint beautiful little town, you need to utilize your public works department and keep the AmTrak area clean.

Its being broadcast on UTube 24/7. Speaking of which, the internet is horrible.

Weak bandwidth makes the streams lag, hiccup, and freeze. Another demerit especially for being a university community.

Preferred solution: Evidence that Flagstaff and AmTrak clean up the depot grounds.

User's recommendation: Don’t allow your luggage to ride in the unsanitary garbage residue stained utility vehicle. And be careful where you set your luggage down around the depot.

  • - Street light has been out for over a year and not fixed after multiple calls.
  • - The city ignores taxpaying residents unless you are on their side.

We've had a street light out for over 1 year and still has not been fixed with multiple calls to streets dept. The city does not care about TAX PAYING RESIDENTS unless you are on "their" side. Need to clean house!!

WHY?

AI Highlights
  • - Concern that road de-icing chemicals aren’t used and conditions worsen.
  • - Frustration with perceived college influence and plan to leave Flagstaff.

I know this is pointless, but WHY! Why are you not using chemicals on the roads.

They are so bad and will get worse, since this is the WORST EL NEINO in history. Cut the trees back. Everyone knows, that have lived here a long time or from here, that our trees are not healthy. Too many of them.

So, Save the trees and the *** with the rest of us. We need to get to work, school etc. and cinders are pointless. I have lived here for over 25 years and born and raised in az.

I have had enough. You let the college take over the town, make these decisions really without our community feedback. Or you get it, and just do not care. Shame, this is my home.

We, my whole family will be leaving Flagstaff for good this year.

Makes me sad, but, its just too hard to live here anymore.

Thank you for your time.

Extortion in Flagstaff

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Seasonal residents pay $52.73/mo; winter service is unavailable.
  • - Efforts to contact the council and mayor yielded no response; donations have ceased.

I know, I know, in the West, whiskey's for drinkin', water's for fightin,. But in Flagstaff, water's also the pretext for a sneaky sort of theft, disguised as a necessity for keeping the old, rotten water system in decent shape, blah, blah.

In reality, it's for collecting extra money for the city coffers on the backs of seasonal residents. This is very appealing to the city council since seasonals can't vote them out of office and they couldn't care less what we think. Here's the deal. When a seasonal resident departs Flag for the winter, s/he pays $52.73/month (it may vary a few cents, only the council knows why) for absolutely nothing: no water, no garbage or recycling collection, a few assorted taxes and fees.

When I asked what would happen if I just closed my account and reopened it, I was told that the council "frowned" on such a practice. I thought about this but have no idea what sort of form this "frown" would take. Even though I've had an account since 2000, they could claim that my credit check was taking months and so forth. I wrote to the council members and asked about this but got no response.

Then after a few months, I wrote again, this time including the mayor. Still no response. My solution, conveyed to the city fathers and mothers - and I don't like it - is this: I have ceased all donations to the Flagstaff artistic, educational and cultural institutions I love and have told them why. And I will do as little business with Flag merchants as possible.

This is a city I used to love and considered a second home town. But this extortion, reminiscent of mob protection rackets of the 30s and 40s, has left a vile taste in my mouth.
