Resolved: Choose A Room claimed to be the hotel and lied to me

Updated by user Nov 30, 2017

Found out that Choose A Room is owned by Reservation Counter, LLC. I complained to them directly about Choose A Room, and how I felt I was lied to about rooms.

Reservation Counter responded, cancelled the reservation, and refunded the $496 to my account. At this point I am satisfied, but still would NOT recommend anyone deal with Choose A Room.

Original review Nov 22, 2017
I attempted to book a reservation at Courtyard Carolina Beach hotel in North Carolina. I followed a link provided to me by the organization to book a room. The rooms were being held as a block by the organization at a reduced rate of $67.30 per night, as we members are all government employees. There was an issue with the Marriott website, and somehow I received a page with a telephone number to contact. When I called the number, I explained my situation. The individual placed me on hold and returned, telling me there were no rooms available under the block€, as they had all been booked. He explained my only option was to book at a much higher rate if I wanted to attend. I reluctantly agreed as I was told I had no choice. The person then took my information and assured me I would be texted a confirmation number as well as an email of my booking and contact information. I never received the text or the email confirmation. I called the organization to complain. They checked with the Courtyard Carolina Beach hotel and responded back there were still a large number of rooms available at the reduced rate. I was billed by PriceLine for $496.08 for 4 nights. I had to go through my credit card to even find out PriceLine was affiliated with Choose A Room. They flat out lied to me about their identity. I do not appreciate the individual pretending to be from Courtyard and telling me there were no reservations left.

I thought I was talking to the hotel I called directly...even asked if it was the front desk..asked about shuttle service. The agent kept saying he WAS the hotel even though I questioned that again and again..terrible English and the guy was so ***...I was wondering why the hotel would have someone so useless working for them. Then Choose a room charged me twice the amount the hotel would have charged me. I was completely shocked when I arrived at the hotel to learn that I never spoke to the hotel directly. The hotel said it was a third party called Priceline. I called Priceline and they told me I booked through another third party called Choose a Room. I learned this later when my credit card came. I called Choose A Room...their company tried to tell me they reviewed the audio tape, haha. Even though their agent lied about who he was...he would never identify who he was working for...they stand behind his actions...why???because this company is fraudulent. As good as those Nigerian scammers!

I could not understand the guy on the line so my wife talk to him.My understanding was rooms were 103 plus tax. They Charged extra fees that were not mention when talking with them. End paying about 80 dollars more for rooms. Try to cancel which they told us we could not do. They have very poor customer service when I try to talk to them. They said they would get back to us in few days.

SCAM

I called in time to cancel my reservation and they had so much background noise and kept saying they could not hear me. I continued to try and they hung up on me. I called back and had difficulty hearing with their noise and they prolonged it by saying they could not find the reservation. After many minutes I asked if my refund was en route and they said no that I had waited too long. I was calling before the deadline but they said it was after the deadline and no refund. The supervisor was rude and said over and over...no refund! SCAM!!!!

DON'T USE CHOOSEAROOM

My call to a Best Western, family-owned hotel was intercepted by a representative from choosearoom.com who did NOT identify himself as an external vendor so I thought I was still talking to someone at the family owned hotel where we've stayed many times. I have been completely scammed. When I went to change the reservation after only 10 minutes on the phone (I wanted to remove one night's stay) I was told I couldn't because it was PREPAID, something I was not informed about. They put me on hold for the cancellation department for over 15 minutes, and then the rep in the cancellation dept wanted me to answer a long list of questions which by this time I refused to do since all my red flags were up that this is a SCAM operation. I was told my credit card would be refunded but in fact, they only partially refunded because they hit me with a $165.80 fee that I shouldn't have been charged based on their policy. THEY LIED to the credit card dispute department rep and said I made the reservation a day earlier thereby exceeding the 24 hour deadline for cancelling. Fortunately I have emails proving the actual reservation date and will hopefully the credit card company will come through. In the meantime, I have to write a letter and provide full documentation as to what really happened. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! Email came from orders@***.com but the company is either www.choosearoom.com or what's on my credit card statement CCI*HOTEL*RESERVATIONS. Telephone is 844-230-**** TX 752340**** US

I lost $133.95 for a prepaid hotel reservation in Seattle made in May, 2016; when I arrived at the hotel a month later, I had no room. The (Red Lion Inn) hotel's front desk could not recognize the reservation number I was given from Choose A Room when I tried to check in. I called Choose A Room that evening and they said because I had originally contested the charge, the reservation had been cancelled. I was not notified of this (of course). When I spoke to them that day they said they had no record of me having already pre-paid for the room. The credit card company investigated and could not prove it was not a legitimate charge and so I have not been refunded.

Scary

Tried to make a reservation. They claimed an error appeared on my credit card so I gave them another and the same thing happened. They even asked for security codes. I should have known better! So I cancelled and called the credit card bank. When they check, they found that the guy was putting the transactions in as refunds. Or maybe they were just trying to get my info. Anyway, don't trust them. I called the hotel direct and got the room for a better rate and they don't run the card and until you arrive. The hotel didn't even know who Choose a Room were so I would have been out the money and a room.

NO ROOMS

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Paid for my room a month in advance, and had a confirmation that my rooms were reserved. Representative call me day of check 2 hours before I got there to check in and told me they did not have my rooms. Therefore they would refund my money. All hotels were booked in that area that is why I booked a hotel a month in advance. Knowing Hotels would fill up. Had to book another Hotel 50 miles away from our destination. I will never use them again. It was a real hardship traveling 50 miles everyday for 3 days . NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER They were very prompt in refunding my money.

Choose A Room Hotel Reservation Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Do not use choose a room. BEWARE!!!! My husband called to reserve a room for 12 /25. The agent reserved it for 12/24. When we discovered the error, they stated they would escalate the issue to their "support team". We are on day three. We have not heard anything from anyone and we keep calling and they keep giving us the run around!! Please do not use this service.

Choose a Room is total BS!

Wish I'd googled this outfit before I booked a hotel room. Total scam artists--worst customer service I've ever experienced. Tried to cancel a hotel room several minutes after I made it, but they wouldn't refund me (3 days ahead of the hotel dates-so plenty of time for them to rebook). They also immediately charged my credit card for the full amount, even though their "Pay Later Policy" explicitly says you won't be charged until after you checkout of your hotel. I asked to talk to supervisor after supervisor and was denied any real help or a refund. Please learn from my costly mistake--do not do business with this company.

CHOOSEAROOM BOOKING

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Do not use ChooseaRoom booking to book any hotel. This number appeared over this hotels site to book.I was going to a conference at this hotel, when I booked through them on 9/25/14 and was told on the phone if I canceled prior to 10/25/14 I would be charged for the first night.I was never sent an email confirmation as I was told I would get instantly. My employer then told me they had a block of rooms set aside.I then called 1 hour after making the reservation to cancel, they would not cancel and then gave me multiple excuses why they could not, They did charge my charge card. after about a week of calling they did cancel all but the first night which came to $196.00. I am still in a dispute trying to get my money back, BEWARE..DO NOT USE CHOOSEAROOM
