3 year old child suffers near drowning at Chartwell Swim Club in Marlton NJ

July 31st 2011 Sean Bradley, a 3 year old little boy from Medford NJ was at the Chartwell Swim club playing in the pool and slipped and started to go under. He was beginning to drown and his grandmother (Who DOES NOT Swim & was Not wearing swim clothes) was watching him. She started to scream as she saw her grandson going under the water swallowing water. Little Sean's Aunt Kathy saw this from maybe 1-2 feet away from the pool. She jumped in the water fully clothed to save her nephew. What is surreal about this story is that the Chartwell lifeguard on staff was ASLEEP! Yes, I said ASLEEP! She happened to doze off at her post. She didn't DO ANYTHING throughout the "Almost Drowning" & the rescue. The life guard's name is Lindsey and Lindsey was immediately terminated after the parents expressed their utter disbelief at the situation. Lindsey's excuse was that she was tired and that the Chartwell facility had her working too many hours!! Sharon Damiano, manager at Chartwell is quoted as saying that Lindsey was "Weird" and most of the other employees at Chartwell did Not like her at all and didn't associate with her because she was weird. Sharon went on to say that Lindsey being tired and working a lot of hours is no excuse to sleep at her post. Sharon stated that she sometimes works 10 plus hours and she doesn't fall asleep at her post. What is even more disturbing is that this is not the first time this season of the Pool having a life guard fall asleep at his post. About 5 weeks ago Jake, a life guard at Chartwell fell asleep at his post and a concerned parent notified the facility of the breach in safety. Sharon Damiano was the manager who confronted Jake. But unlike Lindsey, he was NOT terminated. The parents of Sean Bradley recorded the whole conversation with Sharon Damiano in regards to the fact that Chartwell has had 2 serious situations of 2 different life guards FALL ASLEEP at their posts. When asked by Mr. Bradley (Sean's father) how she would feel if the tables were turned and she paid for a membership to a pool club and her son ALMOST DIED and the people you pay to protect your family are SLEEPING on the job… LITERALLY! She said that she would be FREAKING OUT… WORSE than You (Mr. Bradley). This is VERY SERIOUS. We have to protect people and especially little Children. It is unacceptable to have EVEN one life guard FALL ASLEEP at their post! So to have 2 DIFFEREJNT life guards fall asleep at their posts is a travesty and this needs to be addressed ASAP!

So some *** sends a three year old to a pool club with a geriatric non swimmer as a chaperone and its the pool clubs fault that the kid nearly drowns.

I am a current employee at Chartwell Swim Club in Marlton, NJ. The owner, Mr. Johnston, has been doing things like this for years!

MANY OF THE GUARDS DO NOT HAVE VALID LIFEGUARD/CPR CERTIFICATIONS! They are just people sitting in chairs watching the water, they do not have the skills to save a person, or revive them, God forbid something happens to them.

Mr. Johnston, owner of Chartwell Swim Club, and Sharon Damiano, manager of Chartwell ARE FREQUENTLY DRUNK WHILE ON THE JOB. In her personal refrigerator, Sharon has bottles of vodka that she drinks daily! Mr. Johnston also holds his beer in the fridge the cafe uses!

Mr. Johnston, who is also the CPO, Certified Pool Operator (aka holds all liability) of Chartwell, is drunk while maintaining the wellbeing of the people in the pool!

Johnston is currently being audited, by the Federal Government and State Government for various tax violations, and Sharon Damiano is also under fire for being paid under the table by Johnston.

Johnston also violates many CHILD LABOR LAWS by overworking under 18 employees. He also pays Damiano's son under the table, and frequently overworks him!

OSHA has recently investigated Chartwell for violating chemical standards such as, having harmful chemicals in the pool, having hazardous chemicals near members, and having hazardous chemicals transported/used in neglectful ways. Damiano lied to OSHA officials to get out of them coming for a follow up visit.

Johnston & Damiano tell employees to lie to government officials, OSHA, Health Department, etc. about the standards at Chartwell.

The cafe serves expired food, the way they store and maintain it is unsanitary! None of the employees wash their hands, and Damiano has been seen frequently EATING FOOD AND PUTTING IT BACK. Such as STICKING HER FINGERS IN PASTA SALAD, EATING IT, AND THEN PUTTING HER HANDS BACK IN THE SALAD AND DOING IT MANY TIMES. She picks bugs out of the cotton candy and gives it to unknowing children.

Not only is the way Johnston treats members horrible, but also the way he treats his employees!

It's so sad that this happened to this child, but this WILL happen again because of the way Chartwell is run! Stop it now!

Why would ANY parent leave a three year old in a pool by themselves w an old woman who couldn't swim!!!! I think I'll give Mr J my lawyers number to sue the *** out of this guy for defamation charges!!

I'm a member and have NEVER witnessed anything that was mentioned above! Chartwell is a great family fun place to spend your summer!! I wonder if the disgruntled employee making claims on here realizes that people KNOW who you are from your IP address!

Not so clever after all!! Keep posting so you have an even bigger trail for a defamation case!

Mr bradley if you knew your child could not swim and could not stand in three feet of water why in the world would you ever send your child in to the pool by himself?!? That is lack of parenting!! And if your so rich why couldnt you not pay for your child to take swim lessons?

Remember the movie "A Christmas Story" where Ralphie has to convince his parents, teachers, and Santa that a Red Ryder BB gun really is the perfect gift for the 1940's. Remember he did his essay and gave it to the teacher thinking is was so well wriiten he would get a "A".

Thats what the "current employee reminds me of who keeps re-posting his story. He really belives his story is so well written he keeps re-posting it every day thinking its good. But sory to tell him that its just like Ralphie. Its not a good story.
