AI Highlights
  • - Over half the shingles lifted after 2 years; roofers say adhesive strips defective and re-gluing won't fix the warranty.
Updated by user Mar 01, 2019

Certainteed has had numerous lawsuits regarding the short lifespans of their roofing products. Their shingles either prematurely shed granules or do not seal properly due to insufficient adhesive strips.

This allows the rain to seep under the shingles or the wind to blow the shingles off with moderate wind. Since there is little competition in the market, CertainTeed does not care if they honor their 30 year warranty and will in fact look for any excuse to invalidate their warranty.

Their corporate representitives used numerous delay tactics until my 5 start sure start plus ran out before they made a decision about my complaint. Legal action seems to be the only way to get this company to respond approprately.

Original review Feb 28, 2019

Had CertainTeed shingles installed 2 years ago and already have over half my shingles lifting and ready to fly away in the wind. CertainTeed's inspector and 2 roofers said that the adhesive strips were defective and that our roof should be redone.

We were under warranty, but CertainTeed is unwilling to honor it. They basically gave us the run-around for a year until our warranty expired so now they feel no obligation to help us other than to re-glue some of the shingles. According to two roofers, re-gluing is ineffective since each 3 ft. shingle has a dozen or so adhesive strips and CertainTeed is only allowing two small drops of glue per shingle.

CertainTeed customer service was very abrasive and they are unwilling to stand behind their product. Check BBB ratings and online reviews and see that this is an ongoing pattern with CertainTeed.

There have been class actions suits in the past for their products and we need to start another. CertainTeed will not be held accountable until a class action lawyer holds their feet to the fire to make them honor their product warranty.
