Totally Bogus
I ordered and downloaded this self help program. I could not find the area for activating the assessment portion. I sent multiple emails inquiring about the problem only to receive a response stating "do not contact us again with a question."
Preferred solution: Full refund
Somewhat helpful, not personal or friendly
I am following the things they teach in each session very carefully. The good thing is that I am indeed sleeping longer and with less sleep medication than I have in about 8 months! That's terrific!
The problem is that I've sent in my diaries but only get pat answers that don't really help with my particular issues. The responses feel very copy and paste. You are not allowed to put any comments on the sleep diary that you send in.
The things they write to me after I send in my diary are things I already knew from the material so their responses haven't been helpful at all.
Their materials are good though and have made a difference for me. I would still recommend the program, but you just have to be aware of the limitations.

Verified ReviewerCBT for Insomnia: Appalling Customer Service
I purchased the Premium package which allows you to send questions to Dr Jacobs. I needed clarification on one of the steps so sent a short question by email.
The response was a copy and paste from the steps I already had. When i emailed them back stating my question was not answered, they told me i was allowed only 1 question per week. When i explained that i was not asking another question but simply seeking clarification, i was told to either follow instructions or accept a refund on the QA portion of my purchase. I agreed to the refund to which they replied: "Done.
We have over 25,000 customers and you are the first to request a refund on the QA option. That is because our customers recognize the obvious: no other CBT-I program exists world-wide that offers weekly QA with an internationally recognized insomnia expert for $10. The same feedback from a generic non-expert sleep specialist at a sleep center would cost you hundreds of dollars.
You have emailed us three times today alone. Please do not email us again other than your remaining sleep diaries." Unnecessary and rude responses which make me question the validity of the business.
- Unprofessional communication
Unprofessional arrogant nastiness
I had just purchased the program and discovered the sleep diary section was not compatible with my computer since i don't have Microsoft Office with Word. When i emailed explaining, and asked for a refund i was told i "was not entitled to a refund".
"You are wrong and, apparently, believe you know more, as a 79 year old than we do about our own sleep diary. We should hire you as our IT expert!.". "...the majority of our customers can open and edit the sleep diary because any device can open a Word document. It is a universal format document." Well i can't and have been told that THEY are wrong.
Was it necessary to answer in such an insulting tone?
I do not want to work with such arrogance, especially as a paying customer. DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM.
CBT for Insomnia On - Line Program - Somewhere Beyond Rude Customer Service
I signed up for an on-line CBT course for insomnia. I submitted Sleep Diaries weekly, on which I was told to make no comments. The last diary analysis I received was disappointing since it suggested a course of action that has not worked for me in the past. I sent a query, thinking the worst that could happen would be an automatic email in return saying that they do not respond to questions. Instead, I received an email from them that was aggressive, antagonistic and downright nasty. It actually shook me up since it came from a company in the mental health field. Here is a bulk of their email response:
"In over 20,000 customers, not once has a customer stated that they are disappointed in Dr. Jacob's feedback. That is because it is clear to virtually all customers (except you) that there is no other program available worldwide at this price of $34.95 that includes weekly feedback from Dr. Jacobs (25 minutes of his time which would cost you $150 with your doctor or sleep specialist) and a state of the art CBT-I program. Remarkable.
If you are "disappointed" in his feedback, don't bother to send diaries and use the program without feedback as many customers do.
Otherwise, Please note the instructions you received twice, once with the program and printed in bold red on your sleep diary, that you have now received a third and final time."
When I sent another email a few days later asking for a name so I could file a formal complaint and request a refund, I was told: " In 10 years and over 20,000 customers, not one person except you has ever characterized an email from us as "frightening". That is because there is nothing in the email that is "frightening". Therefore, please focus on the cognitive techniques for changing negative distorted thinking in session 4 and the library of articles since your emails demonstrate that your cognitive appraisals are exaggerated and distorted." In other words, according to them, I'm crazy and I have no recourse with this company since all their responses have come from a nameless person behind a computer. I cannot believe that in this day and age of social media exposing businesses in one way or another daily and with ease, that they would be so careless with a customer even if I am the only one out of 20,000.
In any case, I hope someone will take note. I certainly didn't deserve to be treated in the way they treated me - no one does.
Preferred solution: I would like an apology, and a guarantee that no consumer in the future will be subjected to such rude and unhelpful emails.

I just had the same kind of awful experience today, and I too am concerned about the treatment of persons seeking help. I can't believe this service was recommended to me by a professional. No one deserves to be disrespected in such a manner, and to think - I paid for it! Luckily, my credit card company is canceling the transaction for me.
Here's my email, responding to the nastiness: There should be some recognition on the end of cbtforinsomnia.com that people who don't sleep, and who take the time to email with a basic question for a paid service, do deserve to be treated with respect.
And, here's the reply from CBTforInsomnia: Pleas stop emailing us per program instructions. If you persist in not following program instructions per below, we will assign you to spam and you will be required to snail mail or fax your diaries:
Please do not include comments, questions, your history, or other information in your sleep diary email. Similarly, please do not send comments or questions in any other emails.
- Hateful
Preferred solution: An apology and full refund.
