Consumers Opinions about Beauty Salons and Spas ?

Video interviews are designed to showcase real customer experiences with a variety of companies. They give consumers a chance to tell their side of the story and expand upon their original complaint posted to

I was interested in cool sculpting as an alternative to liposuction. Went to an open house at Ideal Image and bought some Groupons to help bring the price down. Spent $3800 for 1 session and got 0 results! They told me I would need more sessions to see any results but how can you justify the money when you get no results? They tried to convince me that they could see results and that they had done their job. My husband is pissed! What a rip-off! I am pursuing a full refund for non -service. I have read other reviews and all other services they offer are bogus, too!I hope this helps other consumers who are considering Cool Sculpting. It doesn't work.

How to Compare Beauty Salons and Spas

Beauty salons and spas are a part of most people’s grooming routines, with many visiting them weekly to get certain procedures done.

Either way, choosing a beauty salon or spa is a very important task that should be approached with seriousness. This is because the services being carried out there are concerned with the human body. Any error on the part of the spa or salon could lead to disfiguration or health emergencies such as burns, infections, cuts and so on.

Beauty salons are however very diverse in the services they offer.

Types of Beauty Salons and Spas

Beauty parlors and spas vary in the services they offer: some provide certain universal services and other are dedicated to a specific service. The most common types include the following:

Tanning salons

Tanning salons are establishments that are created for those who want to tan i.e make their skin colour darker. This is done through various methods. There is airbrushing (or spray tanning as it is popularly called). This method implies a customer visiting a salon where a professional covers his/her body with dihydroxyacetone solution. The customer might also stand in a spray tanning machine and have the machine spray the solution on.

The customer then allows the solution to remain on the skin for at least 8 hours to allow the solution to tan the skin effectively. The advantage of spray tans is that they are done without the use of UV rays and thus do not carry the risk of damage to the skin. They also tend to give a more even tan compared to sun tanning. The downside to spray tanning, however, is that clothes might get damaged by the dihydroxyacetone and the effects of the tan do not last very long.

Another method of tanning is the use of tanning beds and booths where a customer either lays or stands, respectively. The skin gets tan with the help of special lamps that give off UV-A and UV-B rays.

The advantage of tanning beds and booths is that the process is relatively short (a session lasts no more than 20 minutes) and it is quite convenient. The disadvantage of this method is that due to the exposure to UV rays, there is a risk of developing cancer or getting sunburned.

Due to the nature of tanning, the salon you choose has to be reputable, sanitary, and safe. The last thing you want is complaints about overtanning or burning.

Hair salons

Hair salons are one of the most frequented types of beauty salons. They specialize in styling and caring for hair through haircuts, hair dyeing, washing and drying of hair and so on. One of the most important factors to look out for is the quality of their previous work on others. Compare beauty salons to find those with the best reputation. This implies those with the best sanitation and safety records on the Health and Safety Board’s website or simply those recommended to you by others as good establishments.

Waxing salon

Waxing salons are created for the purpose of waxing removal of hair from the body.

There are many different types of waxing that are available at salons.

The first is cold waxing. Cold waxing involves applying a semi-solid wax to the surface of the skin and then applying a wax strip to the skin. Pressure is then applied on the wax that is then pulled away from the skin, removing the hair in the process.

Hot waxing is another method. Hot waxing is similar to cold waxing, except for that the wax to be applied is melted (hot).

Soft waxing is waxing in which the strip is removed while the wax is still soft.

As you can imagine, it is a very delicate process that should only be carried out by trusted professionals. Research the establishment and look out for any reports from previous customers of injury such as damaged skin, irritation, or infection etc.

Massage salon

Massage salons have more of a focus on relaxation than grooming. They offer massages to customers and are frequently visited by those who suffer from body pain or who simply want to unwind. There are numerous types of massages such as pregnancy massages, aromatic massages, Thai massages, hot stone massages, deep tissue massages and so on.

Before visiting a massage salon, ensure that it is a registered one and that it is licensed to give massages. The most commonly recognized certification is one from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) and also an Associate Degree in Massage Therapy. These certifications are often displayed on the spa’s website or in the spa salon itself. The NCBTMB’s website also has a database of certified practitioners.

Nail salon

Nail salons are one of the most popular types of beauty salons. They are dedicated to manicures, pedicures and nail art. They, like all other beauty salons, need to ensure sanitary and safe conditions. What conditions you should look out for are whether their instruments are properly cleaned and sterilized after each use, if their washing area is properly cleaned after each client and if their pedicure and manicure instruments are properly stored.

You should research carefully into a nail salon’s safety and sanitation record before getting your nails done there.

Poor sanitation on the part of a nail salon can lead to nail infections, broken nails, and cuts to the skin.

How to Сhoose the Best Beauty Procedure

Not every procedure is necessary or even recommended for everyone. To determine an appropriate beauty routine for yourself, a number of factors need to be taken into consideration, some of which are as follows:

  • Health: While some procedures may be very beneficial for some people, other procedures can be downright harmful. For example, while waxing can be beneficial for some people, to those with very sensitive skin, it might cause irritation. Before adding any procedure to your regimen, consult your doctor to be sure that it is safe for you.
  • Budget: Your budget needs to be given serious consideration before developing a regimen. Some procedures like microdermabrasion facials are very expensive and if they become a part of your regimen, you might need to get them done multiple times in a month or a year. Look at beauty salon reviews and look for the procedures that your budget can accommodate.
  • Preferences: Some people might visit the nail salon once a week while some might prefer massages or tanning. Ultimately, your salon or spa regimen has to comprise of procedures that you actually enjoy. If you prefer spending time in the salon looking after you skin, then you should create a regimen that focuses on skincare such as facials and body scrubs.

How to Choose Beauty Salons and Spas Effectively

There are a number of factors you should consider before choosing a beauty salon or a spa, some of which are below:

When conducting your research, one of the first things to consider is the price of the procedures being offered. Beauty salons differ in price depending on location, experience, range of services, class and so on. However, there is generally a price range for most procedures regardless of the spa offering them. What you should do is compare beauty salons’ and spas’ websites’ price listings that will give you an idea of what each procedure should cost on average.

The range of services

While there are certain procedures that salons and spas universally offer, there are certain procedures that are not available in every spa such as massages, tanning, and manicures. Make a list of the services you will personally need and make sure that the salon or spa you are considering offers them.

Safety record

Safety is one of the prime factors to consider when choosing a beauty salon. The services offered relate to the human body and most beauty centre reviews mention the establishment’s safety record. These records can be found on review websites and also in your state’s Department of Health and Safety’s listings of certified establishments.

Things to look out for are the number of reported accidents, the time of the establishment’s last inspection and their certification. If a salon or spa has a record of accidents such as cuts, burns or disfiguration of client’s bodies, avoid them.

As with safety, beauty salons and spas need to have a good sanitation record if you are to get any procedures done there. This record will contain their health and sanitation score form their last inspection which is based on how sanitary their premises are, how hygienic their tools and mode of operation were found to be.

Poor sanitation is a breeding ground for potential infections and the passing of germs as and is one of the most common complaints from customers and health inspectors. Compare beauty salon’s cleanliness rating to make the right choice. This rating can be found on both review sites and in the Health and Safety Department’s online database.

Quality of facilities

The state of a salon or spa’s facilities indicates a lot about its quality of work. Is the building in good condition? Is the equipment being used well-maintained? These are questions you need to ask yourself when you compare beauty salons. The equipment to look out for includes manicure tools, saunas, tanning beds, washing stations and so on. One of the most common beauty centre complaints is that the facilities are either damaged or poorly maintained.

Customer reviews

Beauty centre reviews are one of the most important things to take note of when choosing beauty salons and spas. You can find the best beauty centers and spas using expert ratings and consumer reviews. It’s important to consider the word of mouth from those who have actually made use of the establishment is invaluable and should play a major role in your final decision.

Choosing a beauty salon is not a decision that should be taken lightly as a wrong choice could potentially lead to wasting of time, money and even possible injury or disfigurement. The choice of a beauty salon should be made with careful consideration for the salon or spa’s safety, cleanliness and health records as well as their prices for their services, the services they offer and the opinions of previous clients. Remember that your beauty routine should also be determined by your budget, health and tastes.
