Ed Russell is a GREAT guy
In the Mid 1990s, Ed Russell signed me to an artist development deal on nothing more than a handshake. He treated me with the UTMOST dignity; as if I were someone truly special.....
though, there were plenty other people in town far better than me. I came in the United Artists tower with a homemade demo, and had written a few of the songs myself. He asked who the writer was, and I told him that it was me. He QUICKLY advised me NOT to play those songs since they were not under copyright (I was 16), and explained how all of that worked.
Within a month, he produced a GREAT session with true and REAL **A-TEAM** players. He did promotion and everything. It didn't cost me ONE SINGLE SOLITARY PENNY. Ed taught me a lot about not only the music business, but also about working in the studio, and performing.
He tried to help me grow up, like a big brother. I'm honored. Ed, if you read this, hit me up.
You'll always be a hero to me. God bless you, and thank y'all for being so good to who was at the time a naïve kid from Alabama.
FREE SPEECH VS HATE SPEECH
FREE SPEECH VS HATE SPEECH
This First amendment should be reconstructed for the following reason:
It’s too easy today for a past employee or an aspiring artist to make a comment because they paid money for a production for their career that failed or they were not picked up by a major record label or a major independent label, which I may add the independent labels are doing far better than the major labels in this day and time.
Castle Records was founded in 1969 as an independent record label. It was formed back when the independent artist were and still is being produced by the independent labels and producers for the majors. Castle Records and Ed Russell has been around since 1969. Ed has used major pickers from the Nashville Musicians union local 257 since 1969 the same players that work behind the major artist. And has been above board on all of his productions which can be verified by local 257 union and the (BBB) which has a clean record on Ed Russell and Castle Records. Castle Records has been a signatory label through the international union of New York and Nashville since 1969. All of this information can be verify through the above parties.
Major recording artist had to spend money in order to get to the next level of their career. Or an investor had to invest in them it just doesn’t come free like some aspiring artist thinks it is or has never really check into the real story behind how the major star became a star. Those major artist that has written a book on their career can give you the real true story.
Just because you can sing is no guarantee of success. If you have your own stylistic sound you then have a chance in the music business. The old saying we have one; Elvis, Cash, ***, Hag, Dolly and Faith we don’t need another. Is very true who they going to buy the star or the un-known. However there is that one chance that you can make it but with no guarantees.
If you didn’t make it in the music business the producer ripped you off or you were taken with false hopes by the company. The artist has to have some excuse as to why they were not picked to be the next star.
So you blow off steam on the internet that you were ripped off. When in fact you filed to tell the whole story that you checked them out through major sources before you got involved and got the real truth about the producer and the company. But the real truth is, you go on the internet and lie about why you were not the chosen one.
No one can guarantee that you are going to make it in this business or in any other business. If you were going to become an electrician, do you think the company should buy you all your tools in order for you to go to work for them? NO. Or a hair dresser, did you think they should buy all of your tools so you can cut hair for them? (NO) I guess the music business is the only business that you’re not supposed to pay for anything, just walk right in and the label, the producers work for free (I DON’T THINK SO) if the label signs you which is far and between take a look at the figures. (Debit and Debt) a debit is something you don’t have to pay back however you get no royalties until the debit is paid back and who do you think makes the most money out of this deal? The Company not you. Most investors works the same way they want to make money on their investment.
So if you or your investor feels good about your career, then go for it, you both take the chance of winning and losing. If you win your in, if not, it wasn’t mint to be. So do something else? If Ed Russell and Castle Records have been in this business for this length of time then they must be doing something right.
I’m not asking you to believe this article either, just take it one step further and check the person or persons out through major channels and not what you read on the internet.
Out of 46 years in the business we’ve only had a hand full of disputes. A dispute in 2014 because a songwriter has taken a song that was written in 1969 and published by our publishing company in 2004 yet the Defendant claims he wrote the same song in 2009 and copyrighted it in 2012. Our publishing company is suing him in order to protect our writer’s rights in a court of law. However his material and this law suit has nothing to do with Castle Records or Ed Russell it is a publishing correction of copyright of ownership. So Castle Records and Ed Russell is being attacked by a person on the internet over them being sued.
I believe there’s another that claim our company sound like we work with big stars. The answer to that is yes we have worked with major artist and still do. We are still doing what we started 46 years ago.
If you really have a problem with Ed Russell or Castle Records call them if you can’t work the problem out then your next step would be in a court of law not the internet. This is why;

Response to unknown writer
Every artist that does not make it has something to say about the producer on Google. When in fact they should contact Ed Russell at Castle Records who stands by there artists and is not afraid to let talk about there problem or find a way to abate it.
However this person won't even put his name on his complaint because there is no miss doing and if you check the American Federation of Musicians Union you'll find a clean record from 1988 to date 2014. When you hire a producer and musicians to record a demo and that is just what it is a demo. It is up to the artists to perform. The producer can not guarantee that a label is going to sign you.
However all of the Musicians that is hired has recorded on several major artist.
So if this person will step forward like I have and lets settled this dispute like it should be settled and not on Google in a court of law.
All Lies that sound too good
They will ask you to pay close to $7,000 to produce a 4 tracks songs by top musicians in Nashville, TN ,also lies, and they will tell you that they will get you airplay. on major FM radio stations worlwide and also they will shop your demo to major record labels.
Once you have paid nothing will happen. You will not get any airplay or get shop to major labels. As you can see on the roster no artists ever really stay signed to Castle Records.
All the other artists' album are old and you never heard any of their artists on the radio anywhere. They will not invest in you pr push you album anywhere.

CASTLE RECORDS NEVER TELLS ANYONE THAT THEY WILL BE RECEIVE AIRPLAY THIS IS JUST ANOTHER STATEMENT FROM SOMEONE WHO WAS UNABLE TO GET PLAYED BY THE RADIO STATIONS AND ONLY HAVE CASTLE RECORDS TO BLAME.
