Low-E Coating Specification
- - Door S829 installed 10/24/2016 appears good.
- - Glass heats in sun; near 100°F at 1 inch.
- - Coating may be unsuitable for desert SW; Therma-Tru won't help.
Therma-Tru Smooth Star Model S829 patio door installed at my house 10/24/2016 seems to be of good quality materials and after a couple follow up visits by the local authorized installer, the final installation generally seems to be OK, however, the glass insert for the door gets very hot and lets in a lot of heat when the sun is on it. A temperature of almost 100 degrees Fahrenheit has been measures at about 1” from the glass.
The poor performance of the full lite glass insert with Low-E, Comfort Select 73 (CS-73) coated glass was first addressed to Therma-Tru on March 6, 2017. I've asked for just the glass insert to be replaced but Therma-Tru will no longer respond. When the Therma-Tru patio door was first installed, it was noticed the new glass performed substantially worse than adjacent 15 year old windows facing the same direction. This led to a review of the Low-E coating specifications.
The installation location is in the South-Central Climate Zone (desert southwest) and requires a Low-E coating with a low Solar Heat Gain Coefficient but the manufacturer states: “Comfort Select 73 offers a … solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.72 maximizing energy efficiency in the colder Northern region climates, where heating is dominant and the greatest energy concern.” Be aware, if Low-E coated glass is being considered, the coating should be reviewed and verified that it is being used in the correct application before finalizing the order. Therma-Tru will refuse to help after it is installed.

Boards Review
- - Sat hours 8:00-3:00; gate locked, no one there at 8:10.
- - A 15-minute drive to Carter Lumber Georgetown, Oh ended with me going elsewhere.
They say their hours are Sat.8:00 to3:00.I got there at 8:10 nobody was there gate was locked. It's bad enough that their hours are short ,but when you make a 15 minute drive to get something and their the only thing around that *** me off.I went somewhere else even though I had to drive further. This was at Carter Lumber Georgetown, Oh.
Poor Service and deliveries
- - Repeated billing issues and slow responses from management.
- - Wrong items delivered, lumber unprotected, bead board ruined, and no credit offered.
I am a custom builder in the Central Indiana market. We have used Carter Lumber several times.
Each time they have had billing issues, wrong items for deliveries, and stacking lumber in on the job site too early or not protecting it.
Our last issue, they delivered interior bead board outside on the mud with no pallet. Now it is ruined and they will not credit or take the lumber back.
I have spoken to the area manager and the corporate customer service rep.
I cannot get phone calls back. Also it took me over a year of trying to get my billing corrected as they would not sit down with me to review my account.

Most only take one fuse, 3 amp auto fuse will do.
