Cancelled insurance for no reason and gave no refund

AI Highlights
  • - Don't use this company; they overcharge, cancel without warning.
  • - We are £450 out of pocket and they won't reinstate the policy.

Please do not use this company, you will end paying out of the nose, they say they have sent you messasges when they have not, and ask you to upload documents to the dashboard which does not work. They cancel without a grace period and then charge you an extortiante fee when they cancel your policy without warning.

Please use a company that is more profession and understanding, biggest regret was using this company and we are £450 out of pocket for a recently passed driver is not good at all. Rude, discourteous, arrogant.

Would not reinstate policy despite pleaing with them and explianing that it was not my fault and I tried to send them the documents and get in touch with them. Claimed that I needed a counterpart uploaded which dos not upload in the right format.

Impossible to contact

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Tried to opt out of auto renewal by Livechat; no email confirmation.
  • - No live agents or direct phone contact; a policy cancellation fee may apply.

I've been trying to opt out of auto renewal. I thought I had achieved this via their Livechat with a chatbot but never received an email confirmation.

I have therefore tried to make contact with a live agent via Livechat but none are responding. there is no phone number to contact them directly other than a claims line and they refuse to provide an alternative number.

If I just cancel my direct debit no doubt they will hit me with a policy cancellation fee. Very very frustrating.

Cons:
  • Impossible to contact

Preferred solution: cancel auto renewal due 16th June

User's recommendation: avoid

Extension for black box installation

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Cannot reach an agent via web chat; policy may be cancelled for not installing the black box due to no appointment slots, and extension is requested.

Hi. I have been trying to contact carrot via web chat for days and have not been able to get through to an agent.

I was advised my policy will be cancelled as I have not installed my black box yet but there was no available appointments. I have received to state the policy may be cancelled but the black box company has advised me to contact yourselves and ask for an extension as it is not possible to have the installation done in the time frame given. I'm extremely frustrated with the communication via bot. No agents are ever available to take over communication.

I have sat for hours at a time. I think it would be extremely unfair to cancel my policy especially given your communication issues. Can I be provided with an extension?

I have no choice now so I am ready to open a case with resolver as I can't seem to contact a member of the carrot team.

Please can you contact me to help me resolve this issue. Thanks

Diabolical Don't Quite Cover It

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Carrot's black-box system is described as aggressive.
  • - They report high charges, admin fees for changes, and threats of cancellation.

I chose carrot for my son (MY FIRST AND MOST HUMONGOUS MISTAKE) (one he may never forgive me for) as they claimed to be aimed at the young driver with support and guidance through their "black-box" system to make new drivers better, safer drivers.

I have never known before such an aggressive, manipulative, thieving bunch of gits. They have fleeced my son from beginning to end.

Firstly, the poor soul underestimated the miles he would do in his first year while taking out the policy. Which cost him (and me) significant harassment from Carrot over 3-4 months, but moreso, very much in finances too. Only after a great deal of intervention, rhetoric and invective from myself did they even begin to relent in their exorbitant extortion of him.

Carrot's charging structure leaves alot to be desired...... Carrot significantly reduced the premium by adding myself to the policy (although it was categorically stipulated the percentage would be extremely low). Which has always left me with the fear (particularly due to their behaviour over term) should their services be required they would cite this as a reason to renege. 2) Carrot charge for Administrative changes, address, vehicle - COVehicle requires new box £130 circa - COAddress £35, etc. You get the idea.

What irks me most legislation is used when they wish to charge you. You must have insurance if you have vehicle, even if SORN'ed. You should not cancel your insurance for any reason - even if you decide to sell the car or cannot afford to buy a replacement - you should continue your policy. If you changed anything and haven't paid us - you must make the change by law. An example woule be a shockingly terse and punitive call I received today (9 Jul 18), demanding that he pay £35 to do so - this is a direct quote"..... you must pay or we will cancel your policy!" Quoting laws made for them by politicians with vested interests, and shock of shockers: not in the people whom voted them into power.

My final point in summary:- if they can legitamise an immoral charge they will!

Carrot use, like alot of other insurers, Close Brothers to offset the instalments. This leads to: it was them, naw it was them scenario when anything goes wrong. My son, on a very low wage like the rest of us, had a choice - pay Close Brothers or pay the MOT. He chose the MOT - what's the point in having insurance if the old motors a write-off? They were on him like Flynn. "Pay up now" in text, phone calls, emails and letters. I intervened, I was informed it was Close Brothers. So I phoned CB to be told - pay up or we tell Carrot to cancel. So he paid up.

Carrot seemingly don't allow young drivers to drive after ten p.m. I could see some good in this until they penalised him - I WAS DRIVING. I informed them I have been driving for thirty years, a good portion after 10pm and I could not see how their rule could affect me. I was wrong....... direct quote ".... there's more risk at this time of night." asked for example I was blessed with this quote "......an animal could run out in front of you."

Call me old fashioned, but I love driving with the windows down at this time of night. The cool air blowing around me, virtually no cars and even less people. Therefore less risk!

Now he has to change his address and their throwing around threats of cancellation. Carrot and Close Brother have only just had £160 circa off him, his monthly premium and charges for having the audacity to MOT the car. Their thinking being - put the car in the scrappys and pay us for evermore.

One final thing - Carrot use this Black Box thing that can be attached to your childs fancy phone thing. Now I do not consider myself a Jensen Button or James Hunt, but I have been driving for thirty years and consider myself to have become a safe, careful even slow driver. Yet routinely I fall into minus/red while driving my son's car. Think of that what you will - be aware though a good score brings down your premium........! I just find it highly convenient that an experienced, safe driver cannot get a good score on their App.

In summary - DON'T TOUCH THEM WITH A BARGE POLE. Carrot are poison they will try to destroy that most special of things - YOUR CHILD!

AND TRUE TO FORM - JUST RECEIVED THIS.......
