Treat with caution!

I contacted Carripoms about any avaliable puppies. The seller refused to fill in a standard RSPCA "puppy contract".

Apparently her excuse was that she doesn't deal with "contracts" or "endorsements". She said that the vet paperwork should suffice etc. I merely asked for a contract of sale and a restatement of facts. This is not a huge ask and almost all legit sellers provide this.

It's typical for backyard and puppy farm breeders to not provide any contracts of sale, because they have a plethora of abuse and health issues to hide. Why is restating health claims a difficult task to do? I put this question to the seller and she said she was upset that I had questioned her family's experience! The arrogance and irresponsiblity is astounding.

They claim to have been breeding show dogs for over 40 years.

The Kennel Club state that providing a contract is good practice and in fact require all of their assured breeders to provide buyers with a contract. Going against the advice of the most prestigious canine organisation is sheer arrogance.

I don't doubt that Carripom may well be experienced breeders, but not supplying a formal contract is poor practice. End of.

Experienced breeders tend to follow good practice. Lorna said that the dog was available to be taken away straight after viewing.

That alarmed me. Experienced and respected breeders usually carry out some due diligence such as making sure that the buyer has suitable living conditions for pet, no pet allergies and no convictions re animal abuse.

In my mind this suggested that the seller didn't care for the welfare of the dog afterwards. Puppy contracts will define what requirements of treatment the pups need (such as neutering) and what should happen in case of rehoming.

If the seller doesn't provide a contract then they obviously can't care much about the dogs! They are merely pretty toys to win essentially worthless trophies to some I guess.
