Verified Reviewer |Deceptive practices, DON'T keep their word
- - They wouldn't let me take it to my mechanic.
- - Oil leaks and a Check Engine light; a mechanic said an O2 sensor was replaced to mask a catalytic issue.
In addition to this review, I filed a complaint with the BBB. Got a response today in which Carmel Motors is hiding behind the "AS IS - NO WARRANTY" clause and are offering NOTHING.
When I was told that the problem would be fixed before purchasing, I don't think that's a warranty, I think it's a commitment. Furthermore, if, as it appears, they were aware of, and took action to hide the catalytic converter problem, then I feel they are guilty of deceptive business practices.
We went to this dealership because of reputation. They threw that reputation out the window.
They had a Jeep that girlfriend liked at a price we could afford. I drove it and it WAS smooth for that old of a vehicle and appearance was good. HOWEVER, they wouldn't let me take it to my mechanic for a check-up but gave me a list of mechanics near them. Even so, significant oil leak problems were found.
The salesman promised to fix those even though it was an "As Is" purchase. We made the mistake of trusting him.
On the drive home the Check Engine light came on as well. I have called many times and even driven out to the dealership to try and schedule repairs. Always some excuse.
"My Service Manager is not here but I promise he'll call you tomorrow." No return calls. No repairs.
Finally took to my own mechanic and he said that, not only were there oil leaks, but that an O2 sensor had been replaced and he felt that this was done to mask the fact that the catalytic converter was bad.
VERY deceptive business practice there. Don't keep their word and generally stick it to the little guy who can't afford one of their high dollar resales.
Avoid them like the plague.
- Dont keep their word dont respond to phone calls
- Deceptive practices dishonest poor customer service
- Lie about response then dont respond to visits
Preferred solution: Price reduction
User's recommendation: Avoid this place like the plague! Deceptive, dishonest, Liars.
Horrible
- - The car shown wasn't ready; it needed cleaning and an oil change.
- - Credit was run without permission after promising to text; I won't buy Carmel Motors.
If the car isn't ready don't show it. Owen (young salesman) showed me a car that needed to be cleaned up, felt good telling me it needed a oil change (frfr)
Run!
I told him not to run my credit until I came back, he said ok & will text me.
No Tex & He Did It Anyway!! Who does that.
I bought a beautiful car, BUT NOT FROM HERE...there are a few people who say they were happy with Carmel Motors...but the majority not so happy!
User's recommendation: Run!

- - Deposit paid sight unseen with a promised refund.
- - Car was trashed; no refund.
- - Tanner, the manager, is said to tell you what you want to hear.
I sent a deposit on a car sight unseen, no paperwork, no contract, with the understanding if I didn't like the car it would be refunded. Surprise!
Car was trashed and no refund forthcoming. Tanner the manager is a professional at telling you what you want to hear.
All lies of course. Stay away!
User's recommendation: Keep away!
Traded my in great condition 2018 Nissan Rogue for BMW i3 2014
- - It was an even trade; nothing disclosed.
- - It needed $4000 in May 2022 to be drivable and $3000 for AC.
- - Now it needs a $450 battery and $4111 for charging.
It was an even trade as is. Nothing that was wrong was disclosed.
I took it to be looked at and it needed $4000 of work to be drivable in May 2022. My son drove it until 3 weeks ago because the air conditioner needs replaced because it didnt work ($3000 more dollars so it hasnt been fixed yet). Last week it went from 63 to 33 in the middle of a curve on 465. Now it needs a new battery $450 and new connections to charge the battery which will cost another $4111.
The manager said after the $4000 in May that I bought it as is so it wasnt his problem.
They then listed my Rogue for $5,500 more than they valued it and more than I paid for it. I suggest you go to a dealership instead of Carmel Motors if you dont want to pay a lot of money in the first 6 months.
- You will pay a lot to fix after buying
Preferred solution: I won’t get anything but an apology and not having them do this for to others
User's recommendation: Avoid or get the car inspected before buying
